Scientific review; health effects of cold showers after training.




Cold showers aren't for everyone, but they are an incredible way to get benefits like strengthening our immune system and boosting our metabolism.


Cold showers can help with muscle recovery. There are many people who choose to take a cold shower after a workout, and the truth is that, although this can help us lower our body temperature, to date at least it is not scientifically proven that cold water showers help reduce the so-called "DOMAT", which are late-onset muscle pain.


Those muscle pains that generally appear the day after a strong, intense exercise, to which we are not so accustomed. However, this study showed that showering with cold water within the first 48 hours after exercising is beneficial for our body, helping us recover from greater muscle relaxation.


This, in other words, means that it won't hurt to shower with cold water immediately after training or competing. What it means is that you don't have to do it right away, give yourself plenty of time to do it.
