Big group, decent weather and a water feature means a good run

We have pretty good attendance most of the time anyway but now that smokey season is for the most part, over with, we have seen a lot of people return to Chiang Mai who leave during the time of year where we have some of the worst air pollution in the world.

So lately we have been having better than usual turnouts and have to book extra buses to transport everyone. Rules are lax in Thailand about how many people you can transport on one of these makeshift pickup trucks that have been converted into buses but we refuse to have anyone standing off the back of it, like some Thais will often do.

We had probably around 30 at our recent event and we were also blessed with clear skies and somehow, breeze without any risk of rain which is extremely rare.

The run was pretty flat with a few hills and this pleases some and irritates others. This one we were actually near a body of water and while this does make the overall trajectory of the run rather predictable, I kind of like it because who doesn't like a water feature.

Sometimes the hares will take us through some bodies of water in an attempt to throw us off the scent of a trail but generally speaking it is seriously frowned upon if any water that must be traversed and cannot be walked around is forced upon us and it goes over the knees on an adult male. People carry electronics like phones or cameras with them and some of our members cannot swim. So while there are no official rules in our gatherings, the hares never do this to us because if they did, they wouldn't be a hare again.

In any gathering that we have you can expect there to be a mix of 20% runners (FRB's) 50% fast walkers who are still competing to some degree, and then the other 29% are walkers who are content to let the other 2 groups sort out the direction that trail is going to go in without their help. You might notice that this doesn't add up to 100% because the last 1% is for Tiptoe, who almost always will be the caboose or sweeper of our outings to ensure no one gets lost. If you THINK you might be getting off trail just stop moving and wait for Tiptoe. He has been doing this for over 20 years and he knows how to get you back!

The summer heat is upon us now so plan accordingly if you want to come along. We provide all the water that you could possibly need but we don't carry it on trail for you. Some people carry backpacks or even Camelback backpacks. Other people just wing it and do without water until they get back. It's only about an hour of walking/running/ jogging so for the most part you don't really need it.

We are still doing 3 runs per week and all are welcome to join but keep in mind that the Monday runs are men only. Full details can be found at our poorly made official website

ON ON!
