Every year December 18th we celebrate International Migrants Day. This day was first introduced by the United Nations, in 2000 to respect the contribution of migrants and also protect their rights. Millions of people from Bangladesh go abroad for work. They work hard in foreign countries and send the money back that helps our economy. But there’s a lot of struggles behind that. On this day we remember that migration ought to be safe and dignified, and that responsibility necessarily belongs to us.

Mascot "The Smiley Suitcase" Designed by Me

For this Day i introduce my mascot : The Smiley Suitcase.

This is a simple, and cute mascot. This symbolizes the theme of migrants journey and diversity. It’s a big smile suitcase, smothered with country flag stickers. A handle on top and bottom two wheels are shown in the suitcase,It shows the continuing process of travel and migration

The mascot is light blue, which means energy and stability. Smiley face with glowing eyes are message of hope and positivity for migrants. I made this mascot in Canva. This is great if you’re going to have a poster, banner, or social media campaign. The "Smiley Suitcase" is symbol of challenges and successes of migration.

Things that Changed by this Day

In a country like Bangladesh migration is not only related to economic development but it also works as a pivot of social change. Migrants Day has made individuals more aware of the rights, the respect that migrants deserve. People had wrong ideas in the past but Now wrong ideas about migration have decreased. At present people are more careful about fraud by brokers and risky migration. Many have been inspired by listening to the stories of success and struggle of migrants. They are not just sending money, bring new cultures and life experiences that enrich our society.

Info About Promotionphoto-paper-style-earth-globe-with-silhouettes-international-day-migration-18th-december-concept_742418-14522.jpg

In Bangladesh organizations such as BRAC, the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare, and IOM engage in migration issues. Their efforts have eased the lives and rendered it safer for migrants. However, there is more to be done. For example, establishing migration information centers in all of the district that will provide information and advice. Government and private organizations could provide free legal help . There should be more frequent media campaigns about migration, so that people get the right information, and also they can get over misunderstandings. Above all migrants contributions should be valued more. The dignity of migrants should be raised.
