Special food: the student time

 

When I saw the name of this challenge and that the special food should be related to the special time or event I immediately thought about our student time.

Many of you might recall that being a students we had to do everything ourselves without the help of our parents, at least we wanted to show that we are independent and so that our parents are proud of us.

I remember once we were going to cook together with out students and because it was very late and the shops were closed we decided to gather everything that we have in fridges. One of the very popular dish that you can prepare on your own recipe and change the ingredients is stew that we usually do in a wok.

Each of us then brought what they have at home, for example:

  • some meat
  • mushrooms
  • vegetables, any what we had in fridges

Even now when I am too busy but want something healthy and have small amount of different vegetables I just make such student's favourite dish. I mentioned that last weekend we were busy with garden work that is why I made that dish that took me less than an hour and of course was delicious.

My main ingredient of the stew this time was chicken, that I usually cut in small pieces.

My selection of other ingredients:

  • mushrooms, I usually take champignon
  • one onion
  • one red pepper
  • one carrots
  • some brussels
  • three big potatoes
  • garlic cloves

Then I cut onion, mushrooms and carrot. Once that is ready I start frying chicken till golden colour and add those vegetables and mushrooms, some tomato paste and fry another 10 min till they also have golden colour.

During this time I cut the rest of vegetables and all together the same time, add some water, salt and cover the lid for at least 15 min till potato is soft

Here is served dinner and I usually add some chilli to my one but you can add anything else like soya or ketchup if you like.
