🤢When was the last time you felt some stomach upset?

The last time that I felt some stomach upset, was last weekend which was on Friday. Around 4 am I began feeling stomach pain in the morning which I think is the possible cause of the stomach upset, was because of the late hour that I ate a variety of foods before I went to bed and slept. My mom said it was temporary digestive problems like gastrointestinal conditions to indigestion that caused me to have stomach upset.

🤢 Tell me, do you use home remedies or traditional medicine to relieve discomfort?

I do use both depending on the condition at hand and the one that can lay my hands on. As of that Friday I used traditional medicine to relieve discomfort since it was too early before I then went to the pharmacy and bought some drugs.

As I complained to my mother, she prepared me peppermint tea. She boiled a few quantities of fresh peppermint leaves in water for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then strained the leaves and gave the tea to me while it was still warm to drink which I drank and relieved discomfort.

🤢 You know how to distinguish between an upset stomach due to indigestion, colitis, or gastritis.

Yes, I know how to distinguish between an upset stomach due to indigestion, colitis, or gastritis. All of them have discomfort characteristics that help to differentiate them and I have shared what I know about them.

  • Indigestion: This is often related to food intake, which can cause upper abdominal pain, belching, bloating, and the feeling of fullness. It is mostly triggered by overeating, stress, or spicy foods which are usually short-lived and linked to certain meals.

  • Colitis: inflammation of the colon, which can be a result of infection, inflammatory bowel diseases, or ischemic colitis. The pain of colitis is often in the lower abdomen and can feel sharper.

  • Gastritis: This is an inflammation of the stomach lining, which often presents as a burning or gnawing pain in the upper abdomen, accompanied by vomiting, nausea, or a sense of fullness after eating.

🤢 If the discomfort is very intense, visit the emergency room or simply self-medicate.

If the discomfort is very intense, I will visit the emergency room for treatment. I will rush and visit the emergency room if I notice that the abdominal pain is been accompanied by symptoms like vomiting, dizziness, fever, or blood in my stool I will visit the emergency room Healthcare provider to treat me as quickly as a sign of a more serious underlying issue.

🤢 What steps do you take to avoid stomach upset?

For me to avoid stomach upset, I will have to take the steps which I shared below.

  • Eat mindfully: Whenever I want to eat, I should be eating slowly and in smaller portions so I can be able to prevent overeating, which is a very common trigger for indigestion.

  • Limit Irritants: I will need to cut down on the intake of spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and fried foods that can irritate my stomach lining.

  • Stay hydrated: I need to be drinking plenty of water to aid digestion, as it can dilute stomach acid and impact digestion.

  • Avoid Late Night Eating: Eating and resting very well before going to bed can help me to avoid stomach upset.

  • Exercise Regularly: By doing physical activity like walking can aid digestion and reduce bloating.
