In an increasingly advanced era, classroom learning requires creativity and new breakthroughs so that children do not get bored in participating in teaching and learning activities. Because if they are no longer in the mood to learn and it happens continuously, it can cause something fatal. Failure to learn certainly has a bad impact on the future of children.

Considering that in the digital era, gadgets play an important role in learning, teachers must think so that children's enthusiasm for learning is not uprooted just by various game services from gadgets. So that children are not tied to gadgets and tend to be lazy to learn.

One of them is the "learning while playing" method. I don't call it "playing while learning". The two terms look the same but there are differences. The term playing while learning means emphasizing the element of playing and making learning an additional result. While the term learning while playing emphasizes more on the learning side and makes playing a means of learning.

Playing while learning is a method that combines learning activities with playing. This time I will explain further as an answer to several questions from the team led by @miftahulrizky and @fantvwiki.

1. In your opinion, is this learning through play method effective in a learning activity?

In my opinion, learning through play will be effective with some notes. Why do I say that? Because the effectiveness of this method depends on how the teacher organizes the game so that it will not waste time and children can enjoy learning more while playing.
If the weaknesses of this method can be overcome, then the learning while playing method can be said to be effective. In my opinion, the effectiveness of this method is very beneficial for students in developing cognitive, affective and social abilities.

Cognitive abilities

Children will be able to follow lessons while playing. Children will feel happy because the teacher no longer just hands over material to students on the board. Children feel happy so they will remember the instructions and rules of the game. Likewise, children will try to achieve what is expected.

Affective abilities

When doing learning activities, children will be conditioned to grow a sense of mutual respect, not cutting in line, and empathy and sympathy will emerge

Social abilities

Children happily play with friends, while they are not too aware that at the same time they are learning. They will still feel like they are playing with friends. This togetherness makes them realize that it is more fun to play together and no longer depend on one gadget. They will feel that without modern games they can also get joy. They will feel that making friends and playing together will actually produce social values ​​that will not be obtained from facing a computer or cellphone screen.

2. Create your own version of a game that is useful for learning activities? Explain specifically how to play the game.

Game without using tools

One of the games without equipment that I can choose is singing. Singing is fun for children. This fun activity will make children's memory open wider and can insert material well.

Through singing we can insert various lesson materials to children. This time I invited preschool children to sing together. The song I chose was the names of animals in English.

I apply this method to preschool children with an age range of 3 to 5 years. I happen to manage a daycare that serves learning while they are at our daycare. on the wall we have made a painting of a natural panorama with various animals and plants.

Hunting

Tool : No tool. I use only the painting on the wall.

It starts with introducing the names of animals in Indonesian. To get to know them better we play animal hunting. I will ask the children to catch animals and bring the hunted results to be submitted to the teacher.

Steps.

  1. We gather our children at one point as a home base.
  2. Then the teacher orders the children.
    "Now catch the duck!"
  3. Then the children will look for rabbits and hold the picture of the duckon the wall.
  4. After that the teacher orders again.
    "Now bring the duck home!"
  5. The children will run to the teacher at the home base.
  6. Then the hunting continue with other animals.

Singing

We use the singing method to introduce the names of animals in English. For us, English is a foreign language. It is not our mother or main language. Every child need more effort to speak it well. So it is good to know name of animals in English.
Starting from singing together until the children memorize and join in singing happily. The children sing enthusiastically. Although the pronunciation is still not clear, we understand that the children know what we are asking.

Some time we doing home visit. We can make happiness with singing. Her the sample singing when home visit.

Game with tools : Multiplication House

The game I chose was multiplication house. In this game I combine multiplication and the snakes and ladders game. This game is played by two people or two groups.

Equipment

The equipment we need is:

  • stone seeds or others. In this game I use a plastic ring toy.

How to play

  1. The players place one ring of a different color on the side of the table.

  2. The player determines the first dice roller by suit.

  3. The dice thrower shakes the dice with a glass and then throws them. Calculate the number of dice that come out. Slide the seeds on the edge according to the number that comes out. Multiply by the number chosen by your opponent. For example, the number of dice is 5 and another player places a ring on the number 4, then the dice thrower must place another number on the product of 5 and 4, namely 20. If the number of dice is more than 10 then the number used to determine is the unit number. For example, the number of dice comes out to be 12, so the number 2 is used.

  4. The second dice thrower takes turns throwing the dice. Slide the ring on the edge according to the dice and then place the ring on the product of the dice thrower number 1. For example, if the number of dice that comes out is 8 then now the second thrower must move the ring on the edge from number 4 to number 8. He must also place the seed on the number The result of multiplying 8 and 5 is 40.

  5. Play this game until there is a winner.

Winner

In the house of multiplication game, the winner is the one who can arrange 3 pieces in a row, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Similar to the game S O S.

3. What do you feel after trying the game, is it effective for the subject you teach

I feel the game is so nice and it useful for learning. Learning through playing is absolutely effective.

The games I choose are effective in learning. the children follow the game that I made.
In the hunting game, you can see how children really enjoy capturing pictures of animals. They also learn how to obey the teacher's orders. They also get to know the animals around us better. Apart from that, physically they are active so that it can help improve their motor work and be healthier.

When the children sing they look very happy. In fact, they not only sing but dance and move very actively. They can remember and pronounce animal names in English. This is a good point that further increases their self-confidence.

In the multiplication house game, children pay very close attention and are full of joy. They learn to add and multiply. They learn strategies for arranging seeds to become winners. They also practice sportsmanship and honesty.
