SLC-S21W3: Mastering Product Hunting and Promotion

Hello everyone!
After creating a blog, and the Amazing Affiliate in the first two weeks, now we have come to a critical stage in our course. Identifying the right products to promote, and strategies behind this process. So, Mr. hamzayousafzai has provided us with good guidance, in his third lesson, on Amazon Product Hunting.
So, here's my attempt at that within the Sports niche.
Finding a Trending Product
Well, the Sports industry is always a hot topic all around the world. Maybe it's due to various innovative products, people are looking for their Health with the majority engaging in less mobile jobs. Anyway, just like everything, the popularity of the products is changing occasionally.
So, as the Winter Season has approached in many areas, with Snowfall in Europe, and heavy rain in other regions, Sports Enthusiasts have shifted their focus according to the Seasonal Demands.
- So, I put my attention on the Indoor Sports/ Fitness Equipment, and Dumbbells looked like a perfect choice. First I chose Google Trend option to see the Actual demand for this. And here it is.
So, as you can see, there's a certain Trend just like last year's time frame. The uptrend seems to be started from the start of this month and it's increasing with time. As Google Trend directly doesn't give the exact values, I installed Glimpse Chrome extension for a better understanding. It's 1.4M searches in the past month, which is a 14% increase and it's surging towards 1.8M.
- And in Amazon Best Selling products, Dumbells are currently in 21st position under Sports and Fitness Category.
The reasons behind the Popularity
- As I mentioned earlier, people try to engage in Indoor Sports and home workouts. Adjustable dumbbells are a perfect fit for this and other benefits. It's cost-effective, space-saving, easy to handle and use, and convenient. When you see the Interest by Region, you will understand what I am saying.
- And I guess, being fit/ exercising is a general New Year's Resolution for everyone including me. So, it's time to consider that in an affordable way. 😅🖤 Anyway the data shows there's an increased demand for this product.
Keyword Research Techniques
As we are trying to promote and direct customers through our blog, effective content optimization is essential. Even after finding a trending product, we need to be including in the choices of people as an Affiliate Marketer.
So, here I used Keyword Magic Tool in Semrush site to analyze the perfect keywords for my Product. First I tried both Helium 10 and Jungle Scout, but I couldn't efficiently try it for free.
- The word dumbbell was used at first to see the overall picture. As you can see, there 28,831 all keywords, relevant to this word, with a total volume of 611,380. The average KD is 34%.
Here, KD is a very important factor, which means Keyword Difficulty %. It means the effort we need to put in to rank in the Google Top 10. Lesser the better. Total Volume is the total searches in a month, calculated using the average over a year.
- So, overall dumbbell is an efficient keyword, to use in both my title and descriptions. It is a High-Volume Keyword with a Low-Competition (KD is around 27). And as generally my product type, it will be a good selection.
But other shown keywords are a bit competitive even though with a good volume. So, I tried some different keywords, and sentences several times to find the best choice. It seems a bit competitive.
- Adjustable Dumbbells is also a very high Volume Keyword, that is basically what I am offering. Eventhough the competition is high, I choose it as it directly targets the customers looking for home workout solutions.
- Space-Saving Workout Equipment is another keyword I am going to choose. It gives the main idea of what this is about and seems like something potential buyers are interested in. The KD is pretty good, but the search volume is a bit low. Anyway, I guess it will increase with the relevance to this season.
The way these Keywords Increase Visibility
So, the three keywords I chose directly target the customers that I am looking for. It means the product name, or fitness equipment that needs a small space. So, the product will be more visible.
On the other hand, I used techniques to receive a higher ranking in search Results. It means using keywords with low competition, and high volume. One has both, and two other keywords for each.
So, using them in the posts, descriptions, and titles will help the audience to find them more easily.
Competitor Analysis
Well, there are many sellers in the market, who are already doing a fantastic job currently. But to be successful out there, I have to outsmart them. After searching a bit, I found a possible competition for me.
Their listing provides basic information and product details, and we can buy it for around £51.99. The website is neat and eye-catching, and it seems that purchasing is also simple. So, they are doing a good job of managing the site.
Mountain Warehouse is also selling a Neoprene Coated Dumbbell 2 x 4kg Set.
But, the things that are missing are, they haven't given much concentration to the product. They have missed some, unique selling points, that can be taken to my advantage.
A few more engaging visuals can be added to inspire or manipulate the customers, maybe a video and images of a healthy person using it. And also, there's just one choice. But it will be better to have a few **choices for the customers, according to their needs, in size, color,, etc. And I can probably give that at a convenient price as well. And the description they have provided is just a boring paragraph, which can be presented in a way more interesting way. There is no customer review section, which is not acceptable as this is a basic requirement to show the credibility of my product.
So, these points can be considered to rise from the competitors.
