It was on May this year that I received the news that my late mother is dead. I thought it was not true and I wished I was dreaming. But it was real. She passed out after a brief illness.

I came from a polygamous family. My Late dad was a great man, a Chieftain and a great farmer. This made him to marry too many wives because then, it is believed that your great wealth is showcased in the number of wives you marry. He married 6 wives and my mom was the third. My mom is late as well as the 4th wife. This one that just died and buried is the second wife.

She is is one of those my favourite. She is so loving and open minded. In fact, the way my dad built his house for the wives made my mom live next to her. She is our closest neighbour so to say and we lived in peace then.

My late dad gave each of his wife a room and a kitchen. You are to accommodate your kids in your own apartment unless they are of age to sleep in other parts of the building. This my recent late step mother took us as hers especially after my mom died.

Do you know that it was her children that took me to Lagos after my primary school? Yes, they took me to Lagos for the first time and took care of me. I only left them due to the economic situation of their family and they couldn't stay in Lagos anymore.

I wished I could be present during this burial, but I couldn't. I called my brother who told me that it is fixed to happen today being 19th of December. I was so disappointed 😞 because the distance from my city of residence to my hometown is about 6 hours journey and it's not something I can go and return the same day. The reason is because our religious convention is starting tomorrow because Friday, 20th December till Sunday 22nd December. I asked if it could be shifted but no.

Well, as a step daughter, I had to send a little token across to assist with the expenses and to encourage my siblings to be there too. It happened that way. I was encouraged not to bother travelling because I had explained everything to them.

I have just received the report that the burial went well and my other siblings were there. They sent me the poster above. It is a sad moment but we can't control the situation. Death is an inevitable end and it has snatched our mother away.

I will try as much as possible to travel to the village soon after our convention. I really need to be there. I am hoping and waiting for a time when the energy death will be removed and the grave will release all those it is holding captive. Can't wait! But until then, we just have to deal with it.

Mama Rebecca Okoko Awo, rest on! We are missing you already. We won't forget you in a hurry. My heart is heavy right now. I have been moody since morning. But all the same, I pray for comfort.
