As I returned from my fitness training yesterday afternoon, I noticed a group of people congregated near my house. Given the recent surge in unsettling incidents in my neighborhood, my curiosity was piqued. I approached them to inquire about the commotion and was shocked to discover that my neighbor's house had been robbed in broad daylight. I couldn't help but wonder what the thieves hoped to find in that modest two-bedroom apartment.
You might be curious about the circumstances surrounding the robbery. As it turns out, the homeowner, a Yoruba businessman, had traveled to his village following his divorce. His wife had taken the children with her, leaving the house vacant. Taking advantage of the homeowner's absence, a group of notorious local youths broke into the house and stole various household items, both from inside and outside the premises.

The first item I noticed was missing was the air conditioner, which had been removed from its housing. I was shocked that the thieves would target something like that. It likely wasn't a challenging task for them, given the small padlock securing the cage that housed the AC. I suspect they used a nearby stone to break the lock and gain access to the unit, allowing them to make off with the stolen appliance.

As I surveyed the premises, I also noticed that the DStv dish installed on the roof at the backyard was missing. It was clear that the thieves had come well-prepared. I observed that there's a half-fence adjacent to the building, which likely provided them with easy access to remove the dish. Witnessing the aftermath of this incident left me feeling disheartened. Traditionally, thieves operated under the cover of darkness, but it seems they've become increasingly brazen, striking at any time that suits them.

This incident was truly disheartening, especially considering the homeowner's recent personal struggles. Having just lost his family, he must now contend with the news of his house being robbed. I can only imagine how devastating this must be for him. The fact that our neighborhood is still in the early stages of development, with relatively few houses and low foot traffic, makes it an attractive target for opportunistic thieves. If our area were more bustling, it's likely that this incident wouldn't have occurred.
