Hello! How are you all? I hope everyone is doing well. Food has always been, or you could say since childhood, more than just sustenance for me. It means I love food a lot; it is like a connection to my culture. It is my comfort zone, which is amazing in every way. Food brings people together, and it feels nice when everyone sits together in one place and eats. Today, I will talk about some traditional dishes very close to my heart and that I have also cooked myself.
First comes biryani—I mean, who doesn’t eat biryani or doesn’t like biryani? It is the life of festivals! It is such a fantastic rice dish made with meat and lots of spices. When it is served hot with raita and salad, it is just perfect. I remember when I made biryani for the first time; it turned out so delicious that everyone loved it.
Next is nihari, which is a stew-like dish with tender beef. It is served with bread and lemon on the side. It’s a perfect combo, especially in winter.
Then I’ll mention samosas—I mean, evening tea feels incomplete without samosas. They are crispy on the outside, triangular in shape, and filled with spiced potatoes. It’s so enjoyable to eat them.
After that, I would say kebabs—uff, what a dish! Ground meat is blended with spices to create a juicy, smoky flavor. It’s served with salad and fresh chutney, and eating it is an absolute delight.
Honestly, if I start naming dishes, the list would be endless, but these are dishes that no one would dislike. I love all of these dishes. And you wouldn’t believe it, but I haven’t had beef biryani in the last two months, and I’m dangerously craving it. But somehow, every time there’s a plan to make it, something comes up, and it doesn’t happen.
Anyway, if I keep writing about dishes, it won’t end, but I want to finish on a sweet note, and that is sheer khurma. It’s a very creamy pudding made with milk and is the star of Eid. It’s always a must during family gatherings on Eid. However, I like custard more than sheer khurma. Custard is also made with milk, and it’s quite creamy, but I still prefer custard.
