Communication skills are very essential for leaders because they help build trust among the team and also showcase transparency. Leaders with effective communication skills will foster teamwork, as their teammates believe in and trust their ideas, which will strengthen the team. Effective communication skills also help leaders understand the minds of their teammates, including their opinions and thoughts.

Effective communication skills are very important when it comes to problem-solving; they give hope to the team members and build their confidence.
Communication skills provide an understanding of the team's vision and mission to the team members, highlighting the directions needed to achieve their goals.

WHAT ROLE DOES ACTIVE LISTENING PLAY IN LEADERSHIP?

Active listening in leadership is necessary; it helps strengthen the bond among teammates. In ways like;

  • BUILDS TRUST
    Leaders who listen to their teammates' ideas and opinions show their interest in the growth of the team, and team members won't feel reluctant to share their thoughts and ideas with their leaders.

  • HELPS IN DECISION MAKING
    Leaders who take the time to listen to their teammates will definitely gather enough ideas to aid proper decision-making. The common ways this could be achieved are;

    First of all, as a leader, you should take into consideration the current challenges of your team and provide a clear purpose for the message. Consider the needs of your team members, take note of the important points, and organize them properly and logically to suit the situation.

  • PROPER COMMUNICATION
    When delivering your message, make it clear and concise. Avoid errors and complex concepts that might cause confusion among the team members. Ensure you stay on point and avoid digressing or introducing unnecessary information; also, make use of live situations to explain properly for the team members' understanding.

  • MODE OF ADMINISTRATION
    The method of delivering your message as a leader to your team members matters a lot, so proper preparation must be done first. Leaders must be vibrant and audible when delivering their message; the ability to make eye contact to engage the audience is necessary. There should be room for feedback and questions to ensure clarity and understanding among the team members.
