Dear students, what about deeply entering to better knowing little Diego's family facts? Let's follow with his diary through Spanish lesson n.5, second act:

EL DIARIO DE DIEGO: clase n.5 segundo acto

Así que, mis amores, lo mejor que se le ocurrió a mi padre fue mudarnos a Buenos Aires, donde vivían mi tío Alberto, su hermano mayor, tía Lisa, la esposa de mi tío, mi prima Alexis y mi primo Mattew. Sin embargo, nada más llegar, por razones laborales, toda la familia de mis tíos había vuelto a Estados Unidos, donde mis primos habían nacido y crecido. Mi padre hubiera necesitado que su hermano lo ayudara a encontrar un nuevo empleo, lo que sin duda haría si estuviera cerca de nosotros. Moral de la historia: mi padre ahora solo logra trabajar en la recolección de cartón, ganando una miseria. El papeleo continúa...

Dictionary and cultural idiomatic language:

TÍO = UNCLE

TÍA = AUNT

PRIMO = COUSIN (male)

PRIMA = COUSIN (female

RECOLECCIÓN DE CARTÓN = CARDBOARD COLLECTING

GANAR UNA MISERIA (GANANDO is the gerund of the infinitive GANAR) = TO EAR CRUMBS, TO EARN PEANUTS. Literally, MISERIA is MISERY, EXTREME POVERTY, but together with the verb GANAR means CRUMBS or PEANUTS.

EL PAPELEO CONTINÚA is an idiomatic phrases whose meaning in context is THE LONG STORY GOES ON. The term PAPELEO in its literally sense, means PAPERWORK or in a popular argot, it' BUREAUCRACY (the Spanish literal learned word for BUREAUCRACY is BUROCRACIA). PAPELEO in this context wants to emphasise the length of cumbersome circumstances.

So, my beloved friends, the best thing my father could think of was to move us to Buenos Aires, where my uncle Alberto, his older brother, aunt Lisa, my uncle's wife, my cousin Alexis and my cousin Mattew lived. However, as soon as we arrived, for work reasons, my uncle's entire family had returned to the United States, where my cousins were born and raised. My father would have needed his brother to help him find a new job, which he would certainly do if he were near us. Moral of the story: my father now only manages to work collecting cardboard, earning crumbs. The story goes on...
