Enrolled with British council TKT

Recently I got a valuable chance to follow a useful and important teaching related course. It's the British council TKT . This is provided to selected government English teachers free of charge but under few conditions. So I got selected to the first batch of Embilipitiya zone.

What is British council TKT?
TKT ( Teaching Knowledge Test) is conducted by the British council for teachers of teaching English as a second language . We have to follow 3 modules within 6 months . TKT has 5 modules in total.
After completing each Module there's an exam . It consists of 80 McQ questions to do within 80 mins. At the end of each exam a certificate is given.TKT is a globally recognized qualification.

Module 1 - Background to language learning and teaching
Module 2 - Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
Module 3 - Managing the teaching and learning process

On every week we have a study session at zonal office Embilipitiya. We don't get foreign native lectures for each session but they have trained selected teachers to conduct the TKT for us. British agents visits us occasionally to observe our study sessions.

The first group TKT in Embilipitiya zone is consists of 100 teachers divided into 4 groups. This is a really good opportunity for teachers to polish their knowledge. Government provide this program free of charge including exam fees and study materials. We received a

As the first set of materials.

There are 4 bands of grading in TKT.

Band 1 shows limited knowledge of the content areas tested

Band 2 shows basic but systematic knowledge

Band 3 shows a breadth and depth of knowledge

Band 4 shows extensive knowledge

If you are an English teacher who's willing to update your knowledge of teaching and if you are willing to be more qualified TKT is a good start up. For teachers of teaching English as a second language there are other internationally recognized courses offered by Cambridge English assessment.
