The Debate (Week 48); MY OPINION ON STANDARDIZED TESTING A FAIR MEASURE OF INTELLIGENCE

A standardized test is a test that requires all students and test takers to answer the same questions in the same way. I will say everyone does not have the same chance to do well on it. I see standardized tests as trying to make students compete with each other for higher grades rather than preparing them for the outside life, and this stresses and frustrates some students.
Students should be allowed to try their best to take the test but if they don't do well at least have a reasonable score, they can be allowed to continue, the test should not determine if they move ahead or not because holding them back gives a negative impact on successful education
However, standardised tests are more of memorizing instead of measuring actual intelligence as they put some students under stress because of their unfair expectations of their intelligence. Not everyone is a good test taker; most times, this test does not cover all the student knows but just some part.
Students' background or environment is a major factor that affects a student's score on standardized tests. These include
Home environment
A child's first learning place is his or her home; the way of behaviour, perspective and reasoning of his home affects, and these determine the time spent on study and preparation.
School enivronment
A good learning environment also determines a student's performance it gives a student a feeling of support, attention and acceptance which motivates learning
Classroom environment
A good and conducive classroom also supports a student's comprehension. With a good teacher and making educational materials available.
With all these put together, it will help a student perform and score a reasonable grade on a test.
There are various alternative methods for assessing intelligence beyond standardized testing. Students should have the opportunity to write, and perform skits as a crucial method of assessment rather than relying solely on standardized tests. This approach not only encourages creativity and critical thinking but also provides a more meaningful evaluation of their skills and understanding.
Instead of the usual standardized tests, introducing a stealthy and engaging approach that allows the student to showcase their skills happily and interactively. In this way, they learn through play.
In addition to standardised tests, it's essential to incorporate a variety of assessment methods for a more comprehensive evaluation. Performance exams provide an effective alternative for assessing students
Yes, text anxiety can negatively impact performance, and this can be a result of negative past experiences with text. I know a child who was punished by his teacher because he failed his previous test. It made him nervous and uncomfortable whenever there was an upcoming text. This child is very intelligent in his academics whenever he is relaxed. However, the fear of failure destabilizes him as there are high expectations and punishments if he fails by his teacher.
Some other causes of anxiety could be unpreparedness and lowered self-esteem, which can cause students to be distressed.
Sure, intelligence is a widespread ability or knowledge that involves learning, problem-solving, attention, memory, reasoning and measuring individual differences. Standardized tests measure just one aspect of intelligence and fail to evaluate other forms of intelligence.
You can be very intelligent and lacking in grades because of laziness or other issues and can be very intelligent and so poorly in standardized tests for some reasons.
