I am elated to report that in our dialysis clinic, we as dialysis patients will also never have to worry about buying I.V. iron which is a medication supplement in order to raise our blood's hemoglobin levels. Most patients prefer to use it instead of oral iron supplements to avoid buying iron supplements and taking it with their meals so it is just a matter of convenience. Also infusing I.V. iron directly into the blood stream gives an immediate effect to the vigor of the patient.

Taking oral iron supplements is also ok but I have observed that it makes the skin get darker. It is said that the iron from the blood when the red blood cells die-out would get deposited in the liver and it manifests in patients the skin, it also happens when the patient gets a blood transfusion. That phenomenon is apparent in most patients and is an indicator if a patient is a dialysis patient or not because of their comparatively darker appearances. But using iron is good because it does add energy to dialysis patient's body as it increases the blood's ability to carry oxygen to the cells of the body especially to the heart and the brain.

I am using I.V. iron every two weeks and the way it is given to me is via direct injection to my blood stream. I do not know why my nurses are doing it in that way because normally the contents of the glass vial is mixed with some I'V. solution and then slowly dripped into the patient's blood while the patient is undergoing their dialysis treatment session. But my nurses would give it directly to our blood either about thirty minutes or even a few minutes before the treatment termination time or before the dialysis treatment ends. But what I know is that I.V. iron stains the dialyzer membranes which is why I would take it before replacing my dialyzer with a new one.

I guess that it is enough to raise my hemoglobin levels to a desirable levels as indicated by my last lab work. That is why I am on hold for injecting EPO although I am not sure if my red blood cells are normal in count. I do have some improvements about my sleep and appetite but I still am having intermittent sleep behavior but luckily I can sleep back after waking-up.

I guess that I would wake up if a noisy vehicle would pass-by our house because I am one room away from the road and every now and then a noisy public transport tricycle would pass-by and it does affect my sleep pattern. I hope that one day I can be able to stay in a much silent room so I can have a better relaxed state for the benefit of my overall well-being.

Sleep quality is enhanced by a blood with a good level of iron in it because I once told my brother to take it for that purpose and reported back to me that it did enhanced his sleep and also his overall well-being. In the contrary of you lack in hemoglobin in your blood even if you are not that anemic, it will affect your cognitive function, concentration, sleep, appetite, energy, and your behavior like being grumpy all the time, anxious and all that.

I know all about the signs and symptoms of anemia which I am still combating until now and I did suffered for so many years being anemic until the mercy and grace of God alleviated it to the point that it didn't get so serious enough to affect my existence so to speak. It is because anemia is an insidious health issue for the reason that it also affects your brain function and all the things I had mentioned above.

It would be of course better if I have no more need to take iron supplements, the EPO to raise my RBC and hemoglobin levels, this strict diet that I have to manage, and all these difficult things to consider to make myself get near normality which is heaven and earth in distance to achieve but I take every bit of improvement that I can get in order to make my life less miserable and I thank a million times to God because of these unprecedented graces given by my government's health insurance to alleviate the financial, physical, and mental burden that this type of life situation of hundreds of thousands of individuals like me is facing every second of every passing days, weeks, months, and years of our lives which is now getting the help that we need in order to continue with our lives.
