SLC21/WK2: Mastering CPR | A Comprehensive Guide to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
8 comments
I am pleased to participate in 2nd week of SLC Season-21. This week we will be learnt Mastering CPR | A Comprehensive Guide to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. So Let's start,
Perform all steps of cpr on a mannequin (your productivity) and explain each and every step in detail. Teach CPR to only 3 people (may it be your family, friends, relatives, or fellow mates and attach pictures of you teaching them)(Edited- if you don’t have a mannequin, use a firm pillow or stack of towels)
I was eagerly awaiting for this class but I was a bit sick so I am participating here at the eleventh hour but I deem I will explain every single detail. I the first lesson we learnt about what should we do as a first responder. If we saw any accident around us we should help them. I will remind our first lesson here we were tought, if we see accident then what steps we should take. So considere a pillow as a victim I act as a first responder. First I assesed the situation and ensure my safety. If the accident place is safe for me then I will immediately go for her help if there are any obstruggle I will make that clear first. In this case safty of mine and the patient is secured and call for emergency help.
Here the victim is an audult. I first looked for chest rise and breath using the LLF (Look, Listen, Feel) protocol for maximum 10 seconds. I assumed here that the victim was not breathing normally and was just gasping so I started CPR. If one loses consciousness(Don't response), his heart stops beating or he has trouble breathing then we immediately go for CPR.
Then I lay the victim flat on the ground and I knelt down next to him. You can see in the picture I provided by placing the right palm in the middle of the chest (breastbone) and placing the other hand on top of it and interlocking the fingers. In this way I will compressed the chest and will not get tired quickly.
Then I did 100-120 chest compressions per minute. It is said that if you count it out loud, it increases one's energy. So I was also loud during the count. I tried to keep the time gap between compressions short. (Remember to apply pressure in such a way that the ribcage descends 2 to 2.5 inches. So that the pressure on the heart.)
Then I check the airways to make sure they are clear. I pulled his head back, raised his snout and opened his airway. If phlegm, blood or anything else is stuck in the passage, let it clear and breathe.
After 30 chest compressions, I breathed into the victim's mouth. While inhaling, close the victim's nose and open the mouth and take air into my lungs (inhaling all the air forcefully) and blow it into the patient's lungs. Do this 2 times after every 30 times of pressure. Means its ratio will be 30:2. This should be done until the patient's heartbeat is active or the patient's breathing is normal.
Use of AED is depends on its availability, I don’t have it at this moment, so here I couldn’t use it.
I am performing CPR with my three relative
One of them is only 8 years old. My 8 years old nephew was very eager to learn CPR.
How to perform CPR on pregnant ladies, obese people, and weak older people; write modifiable procedures for each in detail.
CPR On Pregnant Ladies |
---|
A pregnant women CPR is not only about a women but also we have to be concerned about the baby in womb too. For the first step we have to go for her response. Look for her breathing and listen her breathing sound and feel her pulse which is in short (LLF process). If there is no response then ask some one for emergency response service and start the CPR. Here I will write only the modifiable procedures for each in detail.
For a pregnant women we have to
shift the uterus to the left on a flat ground. This reduces pressure on the inferior vena cava, which can cause uterine contractions. It improves blood flow to the heart, increases compression and oxygen delivery. High-quality chest compressions play a very important role in pregnant women, so extra care must be taken in proper hand position and compression depth. So the focus should be on consistent, adequate contractions.
CPR on obese people, and weak older people |
---|
For obese people's CPR, hand placement should be center in the chest with frim pressure which is greater then regular people. In a word it needed a bit more body strength for compression.
Older people have bone problems so we have to give PPR considering the bone issue. So we need to adjust the strength slightly to ensure that the compressions reach the required depth without causing too much injury, but we must note that depth is important in CPR. As with all other victims, maintain a 2-inch depth to ensure adequate blood flow.
Write explanation for all the mistakes people do during CPR, aswe highlighted in the class topic.
A common problem we all encounter during CPR is the inconsistency of applying deep chest compressions. Due to lack of consistency of this pressure, proper CPR is not possible and the survival rate of the victim decreases. By compression inconsistency I mean that the speed is lower or higher than the speed of 100-120 compressions/min.
Another important factor in performing CPR is taking a gap between two compressions. It's a mistake.
We have also mentioned that there is a specific hand position to perform CPR but mistakes like wrong hand position happen.
Another mistake we make in CPR performance is that we start CPR directly without asking for help from emergency help and thereby delay in getting further services.
I think it is a common mistake that the same person performs CPR repeatedly even after being exhausted.
We all know that CPR requires a flat surface. But in this case many do it on the bed or other objects which is a mistake.
I would love to host a campaign to raise awareness about CPR in my community as we learnt from the lesson "Mastering CPR can make a life-or-death difference in emergencies".
**Campaign Name: "Every Second Counts"- CPR Challenge **
Main Campaign Goal:
The main goal for this campaign is to increase awareness of CPR, learn people how to perform CPR and Why it’s important.
My Target Audience:
- My Target Audience is young general people of the society.
- High school, College and University students
- Parents and Volunteers
Key Messages:
- CPR can save one's life
- CPR is easy to learn
- You can be a life saver
- Be a responsible human being
- Push and save life
