It is always a joy for me whenever I have the opportunity to participate in the Steemit contest weekly and today I will be participating in the crypto academy community contest. Stay tune below.

What do you mean by house wiring?

In explaining to the best of my knowledge, I have actually come to discover that when we talk about House wiring, we are talking about all the electrical system in a particular building that helps to distribute or supply necessary electrical power to the appliances to the house. It comprises switches, wires and also sockets which help to distribute electricity effectively in the house.

Types of House Wiring

When we come to house wiring, there are various types of house wiring ranging from their usage.

  • Conduit Wiring: This will be the first I will talk about because it is also one of the most popular type of house wiring. In this type of wiring, lot of wires are connected together making use of plastic tubes. It always helps to ensure durability.
  • Casing and Capping Wiring: This is the second one I will like to make mention of. It makes use of wooden and plastic casings for this also.

  • Cleat Wiring: This is another type of house wiring that is less common because it makes use of wires being connected to the walls making use of something called the plastic cleats.

  • Batten Wiring: This is the last type of wiring which is so common because it is very cost effective.

Components of House Wiring

Of course there are a whole lot of components that made up House wiring which I will like to talk about. I will be talking about some of them below;

  • Electrical Wires: These are the wires that are usually conductor in nature.
  • Switches and Sockets: This particular helps to control the flow of electricity
  • Distribution Board: They act like panels to help protect against overload.
  • Earthing System: Then lastly which I beyeveru housing wiring should have is earthing system.

Based on the picture above and with what I can see in the picture, there are various materials I was able to see in the picture which I will be explaining below.

1. Tester (Screwdriver with Neon Indicator).

  • Function: The function helps to be able to check and know the amount of voltage that is in the electrical circuits. The neon indicator I saw in the picture also helps to detect voltage.

  • Requirement in House Wiring: Talking about the requirements of the material above, it helps to make sure that adequate safety is achieved for the installation process and helps to constantly check whether a circuit is live or dead.

2. Socket Outlet (Plug Point).

  • Function: This is the second type of materials I was able to notice and the function is that it helps to provide a valid connection for the various electrical devices. It helps to distribute the necessary power for the appliances.

  • Requirement in House Wiring: Talking about the requirements, I will say it works to sustain and power those electrical devices that might be available in the building.

3. Switch Box/Frame.

  • Function: The third material I was able to notice is the switch box and it works in a way whereby it helps to give this secure enclosure to the house switches.

  • Requirement in House Wiring: The requirements in the house wiring is that it always helps to make sure that the components are protected.

4. Switches (Two Types).

  • Function: Talking about the function of the Switches, I will say it always helps to make sure that there is consistent flow of electricity to the electrical devices and appliances.

  • Requirement in House Wiring: Talking about the Requirements in House Wiring, it also helps to turn those electrical devices either on or off and then helps to achieve adequate energy efficiency.

5. Porcelain Holder (Ceiling Rose).

  • Function: The function of the Porcelain Holder works in a way that helps to connect points for the ceiling lights and fans in the building.

  • Requirement in House Wiring: This particular material works to help to make sure that there are proper wire connections achieved.

What kind of wiring has been done in your home? Mention five advantages of this wiring.

There are two major wiring in my house which I will be explaining below for us to see.

1. Changeover switch

Advantage Of Changeover Switch.

  • Uninterrupted Power Supply: One of the first advantage I will like to make mention of is the fact that it helps so that there will not be uninterrupted power supply most especially when we have two power sources in our house. I am talking about the generator.

  • Energy Source Flexibility: It also helps to make it possible for us to make use of any alternative energy we have which is mostly generator power for us.

  • Cost-Effective: These types of Switch in my own are actually so affordable because they are called the manual changeover.
  • Simple Operation: With the way it is designed, it is easy to operate even if you are not an electrical oriented user, you can operate the changeover.
  • Enhanced Safety: Then lastly, with changeover in our house, it helps to protect our appliances in the house most especially when there are power outrages.

2. Distribution Board.

Advantage Of Distribution Board

  • Efficient Power Distribution: Just as the name, it helps to achieve an efficient power distribution to the circuits in the house.

  • Overload Protection: It helps to protect my house against something called electrical overload which helps to achieve electrical safety.

-Centralized Control: It gives this centralised control of all the electrical circuits in my house to help deal with troubleshooting with ease.

  • Customizable: Another major advantage is the fact that it helps to achieve the fact that it is customizable.

  • Improved Safety Standards: This is the last one I will mention. It helps to be able to achieve electrical safety for the appliances and not only the appliances but also for the people living in the house.

Write the advantages of earthing or grounding. At least three.

For this particular question, I will be listing out 5 golden advantages I strongly believe that Earthing have. These are below;

Advantages Of Earthing.

  • Protection Against Electric Shock: This will be the First I will definitely make mention of. With Earthing, it helps to prevent electric shocks because those currents are being directed to the ground.
  • Prevention of Electrical Fires: It helps to also prevent electrical fires because of those short circuits or excess current instances.

  • Protection of Electrical Appliances: It helps to also protect against Electrical Appliances. There are some electrical appliances that cannot handle huge current or excess current.

  • Voltage Stabilization: This might be shocking to many of us but that that is the truth. With earthing, it helps to protect against high voltage levels which helps to ensure safety.
  • Enhanced Safety During Faults: It helps to achieve Safety finally most especially when there is situations whereby faults actually leaked.

Connect the switchboard as per the given diagram and show a load handling (Lamp/Fan). Consistent clear details should be mentioned.

Mention the precautions you take while doing electrical wiring. Why is it important to be careful in electrical work? (Write in your own language)

When it comes to the precaution that one must take during electrical wiring, these are listed below also;

  • You need to always make sure that you turn off the power supply even before you start your electrical work and why this is done is because it can help to prevent any electric shock.

  • The second precaution is that you should make use of the proper insulated tools in case of any accidental contact.

  • Always make sure to due Protective Gear. Why I will suggest gloves, boots and other is because it helps to protect you from electrical hazards.

  • Make sure that you always follow the necessary wiring codes and standards to the fullness.

  • Always make sure that you do not work with electricity in wet conditions because it can cause something called electrocution.

Why Is It Important to Be Careful in Electrical Work?

Well as I round up, I will like to establish the fact that why it is very important to be careful during any electrical work is that naturally, electrical work are very dangerous and needs utmost attention if not it can lead to more dangerous consequences. You need to be very careful not even only because of the safety of those appliances but also for the safety of people including you and others and generally the prevention of property damage.
