Every market you go to specializes in something, something that they do phenomenally well, and it's often at very good prices. Here in the mountains of southern Vietnam, this market seemingly has it all when it comes to meat and produce. Especially the produce.

In fact Dalat is known for it's temperate mountain climate and incredibly rich soil. It's perfect for growing all sorts of produce. At this market I saw some the best tomatoes of my life! Strawberries are farmed her in huge quantities. Blackberries, avocados, peppers, potatoes, peaches, plums, pears, and more! Dried fruit, nuts, peas, and things you never seen before could all be found at this market. They even grow grapes and make their own wines here.

The Vietnamese however were not the first making wine from grapes here. Dalat used to be a French Colonial city. Napoleon III in July 1857 invaded France and the occupation held for the better part of a century. Besides a lot of hardship during these years, the famous Vietnamese bang mi baguette sandwich was created; as well as how to make good wine!

Back to the market, the interior is where you can find the meat and seafood. Let that be a warning to all those not wanting to see some graphic butcher photos, especially at the end of this series where we see all that is on the menu. Now come along and lets have a cultural adventure at the market in Dalat Vietnam!
