The winged spindle, scientific name euonymus alatus, is a species of flowering plant in the family Celastraceae , native to central and northern China, Japan and Korea.

It is also known as winged euonymus or burning bush .

Trunks are famous for their four cork spikes or "wings". The species name alatus comes from the Latin word meaning "winged" referring to these branches.

This native plant is found in forests and shrubs from sea level to 8900 feet in elevation.

The winged spindle is a popular ornamental plant for gardens and parks because of its bright pink or orange fruits and attractive foliage.
