Carolina cherry laurel, scientifically known as prunus caroliniana, is a small evergreen flowering tree native to the lowlands of the southeastern United States, from North Carolina south to Florida and west to central Texas.

The tree, also called Carolina laurelcherry, Carolina herry, or Cherry laurel, is a medium-sized evergreen tree growing to about 5 to 13 meters tall.

The leaves are alternate, elliptic to inverted lanceolate, and pointed at the base. They are dark green, glossy, and rough. They are 5-12 cm long, usually with whole edge (smooth) but sometimes serrate (with fine serrations).

The green leaves and twigs, when crushed, have an aroma similar to maraschino cherry or almond extract.
