Greetings fellow readers in the campus connect community, it is Ace once again and to keep up the steem spirit, I would keep Steeming regardless of what the market is experiencing and until Steem Backed Dollars are back and kicking. I ran out of student ideas because of the strike but I still have some learnwithsteem topics up my sleeve so here is one where we talk about the common terms used by Government Students in the university.

STATE OF EMERGENCY

This is usually declared by the central body of the country, the government or the president to counter threats to national peace. These threats to national peace include natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes and man made disasters like insecurity, terrorism or indiscriminate taking of lives and property. State of Emergency can include curfews, lockdown and they usually counter some fundamental human rights like rights to freedom of movement and speech.

SOCIALISM

This is political and economic theory which suggests that crucial decisions about the way the production process can be carried out and about the way resources are produced and distributed in a country should be decided upon by the members of that community. Here democracy is practically in the sense that legitimate members of the community put heads together to make decisions.

CAPITALISM

This is quite the contrary from socialism mentioned earlier. Capitalism is often called a free market economy. Here the means of production and allocation of goods and services and resources around the nation or community is placed in the hands of a few individuals with profit driven goals. If the government were to surrender their refineries to private individuals to manage and utilize then capitalism has just taken place.

AUTOCRACY
This term is often confused with dictatorship but they are not the same. Autocracy is a form of government rule where all the power is focused on one individual and they rule and make decisions which are to be followed by all under their rule without an advice or contradiction. A good example of an Autocrat is Adolf Hitler of the Nazi Soviet union.

DICTATORSHIP

This is a situation where a single entity exercises supreme power over the ruled territory with no constitutional limitations. Most dictators rule with an iron fist and use abusive and forceful means to control their people. The dictator makes rules and those who defy them are exiled, ostracized or prosecuted. That is to say that his words are final and the constitution can't control his actions. A good example of a dictator is Mussolini of Germany.

RULE OF LAW
The rule of law is a theory which implies that the laws of the land and those in the constitution are to be followed by everyone irrespective of their status or condition. This means that no one is above the law, both the ruler and the ruled. If an average citizen commits a crime and the constitution says he should spend 10 years in the prison, if the governor were to perform that same crime, they would suffer the same fate as the normal Citizen.

MONARCHY

This is a political system where the power is vested in a single person who is the monarch and has to be the head of states. The various types of monarchy includes absolute monarchy, constitutional monarchy which is presently being practiced in England in the case of the Queen. In a normal circumstance, the monarch exercises full power and no other laws made can affect them except they allow it but in a constitutional monarchy, they work with the constitution and their powers are limited to the constitution.

DEMOCRACY

This is one of the most popular forms and government and it involves the people's best interests. Here the citizens of the country were supposed to come together to make laws and solve issues affecting then but due to Population and other problems, they elect people to make these decisions on their behalf. The citizens are called the electorates. So the power to select leaders rests on the electorates.

ARMS OF GOVERNMENT

The are generally 3 arms of government which makes up anything involving the laws to abide by in a democratic country and they are the legislative which are the group of people who make up the laws in a country. A bill is passed(a proposed law), it is evaluated by the house then a vote to pass it into law would be made available of which the majority gets the saying the house (like the house of representatives or the house of the Senate), the executive as the name implies, they carry out the laws already made and voted in the the legislative (like the governors, local government chairman) and we have the judiciary which has to do with upholding those laws and punishing offenders. The judiciary involves anything that has to do with evaluation and punishment of law offenders like (the supreme court, the court of appeal, the federal high court).
