Research shows that one in nine persons face hunger.

Hello my fellow steemians. Hope we are all doing great today. I’m excited to participate in this week’s contest organised by @sahmie.

How does food security affect public health?

Food security only works for the betterment of the society.

Food security simply means that there would be enough food to provide for the people, both now, and in the future. This means that no matter how much food is provided for the people in the present, which is now, it would not interrupt the production of enough food even in the future.

What role do government policies play in food security?

Here, all workers are expected to go to their farms, or look for a place in their homes to plant something.

How does climate change threaten food security?

Source

Climate change is a very serious issue when it comes to the production of food. This is so because the layers of the ozone can either be too harsh for the crops, or too cold for the crops to grow properly.

Most times, human activities (climate action), can determine the kind of climate we create for our crops. Bush burning, the emission of gas from the cars and other things are all threats to the climate.

Climate change plays a huge role when it comes to food security.

Can community gardens improve food security and health? Explain.

Yes, community garden can improve food security and health. This can also be referred to as artificial or city planting. Making a place to plant on can improve our health because:

  1. Freshness: We get to eat fresh produce from the garden just beside or behind the house. Most foods today pass through different hands, and which may sometimes may not be healthy. But plucking what we need right where we can see it improves our health a lot.

  2. Air: Research shows that plants, especially trees cool our environment. That is, while we breathe in oxygen and breathe carbon dioxide, plants do exactly the opposite.

So, if we have plants close to our house, it makes it much easier to cool the house, and give us fresh air.

  3. Reduces food wastage: Getting food from the garden helps us take only what we want at the time. Sometimes, in the quest to get enough food for our family, we tend to buy more so we can cook at other times, but we end up wasting the food because it either soars or were unable to finish the whole thing.

But with this, the right amount would satisfy us and make us eat just fresh food.

How do cultural factors influence food choices?

Source

The only cultural factor from my place is what I’d like to discuss with us today. It is not too advisable in my place to eat dog meat and pork.

This alone tells us that people who sell these kinds of food products around where I stay may not make enough sales, as many people would end up not buying it.

This communicates to us that culture can determine to an extent what food can be eaten, and if such foods would be ideal in a particular location.

Would like to invite @saintkelvin17, @deprincedeman and @mcgrady to participate in this contest.

Thanks for reading through.
