Welcome friends! It is another interesting time to talk about this value topic of obedience. Many have continued to contradict the essence of obedience with freedom or self-decision-making. The word obedience can be viewed from different facets given the platform in which it is discussed.
How a politician would see it may be quite different from that of a sociologist or psychologist. Loyalty may be traces of its origin even when what is said isn't naturally right.
Growing up as kids, we thought of obedience as one of the virtues of discipline. We are to know our elderly and be submissive to them. This was the family upbringing, but there are cases where this is abused, and the question is, are kids still expected to be obedient to those elderly who abuse them in one way or the other?
No doubt that obedience is vital in any functional society, making it.easy for people to co-exist and follow stipulated guidelines to maintain peaceful coexistence.
I have tried to put together some scenarios we could find obedience and its vital importance. In the social space, we find obedience has a role to play in ensuring safety and stability by instituting laws and regulations as guidance.
Where government protocol is observed, leaders tend to make policies and bills that are human-friendly. But in a situation where personal growth is involved, it fosters discipline, responsibility, and character (morales) upliftment.
Just like we know, there is always a bad side to everything, and no matter how little it is perceived to come by when abused, we see personally hampered creativity and critical thinking since we are to align within the confines of what is needed. Acting outside this is supposedly seen as breaking the ropes of obobedience
Due to the submissiveness and loyalty involved in obedience, there are the possibilities of power abuse from governmental predisposition. Also, an abused obedience inhibits the morality of individuals. No wonder, sometimes, a misalignment is termed civil disobedience.
In good light, the value of obedience is an insightful one that promotes critical thinking. However, we have to be mindful of critical thinking, as it aligns with questioning civil authority constructively. It should be a guide to cutting the excess of governmental abuses.
It is a way away from power abuses. Obedience is also perceived to be a veritable way of promoting responsible decision-making and moral upliftment. We cannot over-emphasize the importance of obedience in our everyday society.
