An embarassing situation that included bullying.

As a very young child, I had an embarrassing moment of bullying by my classmates and my teacher. I remember I was in second grade and had to read a text to demonstrate how we were progressing in learning to read. The teacher would choose a paragraph from a text and the students had to read it in front of the whole class. I had not studied the lessons, and I noticed that other classmates were being complimented on their reading and were reading the exact same thing.
I took it for granted that I was also going to read the same paragraph, it was my turn to read, the teacher pointed to the paragraph and I very confidently recited before all my classmates the words that I had learned by heart by hearing them from the mouths of others, without even reading the words of the text. The teacher told me to shut up and sat me down in a corner of the room, putting on donkey ears.
My classmates began to make fun of me, time went by and I felt more and more embarrassed. What happened was that the teacher in my case selected a different paragraph than my classmates, and I learned by heart the paragraph of those who preceded me.
Sitting in that corner of the classroom, I felt the laughter and teasing of the other children growing louder and louder, which caused me to begin to cry inconsolably.. It was all over, but I felt ashamed. This bitter and embarrassing experience discouraged and affected me in such a way that my school performance dropped and I was afraid that the other children would continue to make fun of me.
I recognize that part of the blame was mine for being lazy and not learning the lessons that the teacher sent me. Fortunately, with the support of my mother and my aunts at the time, I managed to overcome this incident, learning to stop being lazy in my studies, learning to value myself and not letting the actions of others affect my self-esteem. I learned that I should not allow anyone to treat me that way ever again.

The teacher was reprimanded as my mother went to school and made the complaint, in her wisdom she claimed that there are other ways to correct children, without exposing them to other classmates.
We must cultivate empathy and respect for others, and above all make children understand that bullying is bad and that such an attitude towards others can have serious consequences for both the bullied and the bully.
