Christmas in Brisbane Australia π¦π π

Now Christmas here in the land down under is a lot different to everyone in the northern hemisphere.
We grew up with songs and stories of a white and cold Christmas but it the complete opposite here.
Itβs the middle of summer and stinking hot here every Christmas!!
Our Christmas day normally revolves around staying cool in air-conditioning or if your lucky you have a swimming pool to cool off.
We have seafood for lunch like prawns and oysters.
And a BBQ of sausages or steak.
Cold meats like ham on the bone with salad or even a roast chook.
Every year Brisbane city puts up a huge Christmas tree in the centre of the city in King George square.
Which is also home to the Brisbane city hall.
And this year with tax payerβs money and the Australian gambling syndicate... The lotto.
They have lit up the Brisbane city hall with projectors to tell a short animated Christmas story the goes for about 7min.
There was also a overpriced Christmas market Selling random creations and overpriced food trucks.
Now this animated building spectacle was actually pretty cool.
It told a story about Santa crashing his sleigh in Brisbane Australia and needing to find local ingredients to make a ginger bread to help fix his sleigh.
And after some of his reindeer escaped they found some kangaroos to help out Santa and his sleigh.
They lighting and story line was great!
But the one problem I had with this whole experience was the stark reality of life in Brisbane.
There was homeless people sleeping on every bench we walked past in the city.
And even in King George square no exception.
With the cost of living rising and the major drug and mental health problem we have here I felt like this superficial shows money could have been better spent. Especially money from a gambling sponsor.
None the less my son loved it.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!!
