BEING GOD'S FOOL—THE PATH TO TRUE WISDOM
"LET NO ONE DECEIVE HIMSELF. IF ANYONE AMONG YOU SEEMS TO BE WISE IN THIS AGE, LET HIM BECOME A FOOL [discarding his worldly pretensions or haughtiness and acknowledging his lack of wisdom] THAT HE MAY BECOME WISE."
1 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
Comment: Whoever wants to prove to be wise would be made a fool. Even if you knew what to do, you should not rely or lean on your own understanding, you should acknowledge God and ask Him what He would want you to do (Proverbs 3:5,6).
A way that seems right to you might be wrong, and It might be a way of death: "THERE IS A PATH BEFORE EACH PERSON THAT SEEMS RIGHT, BUT IT ENDS IN DEATH" (Proverbs 14:12 NLT).
To be wise as a believer, you have to become a fool (1 Corinthians 3:18). Becoming a fool means, If you did know what to do, you would still go before God to ask Him for directions. You do not lean on your own understanding:
5 TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING; 6 IN ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, AND HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATHS" (Proverbs 3:5,6 NKJV).
Other translations said:
" . . . SEEK HIS WILL IN ALL YOU DO . . . " (Proverbs 3:6 NLT)
" . . . IN ALL YOUR WAYS SUBMIT TO HIM . . ." (Proverbs 3:6 NIV).
Someone who does this might look like a fool in sight of the people of the world or carnal believers, but the person is the wisest person. Because, God's foolishness is wiser than Men: "BECAUSE THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD IS WISER THAN MEN, AND THE WEAKNESS OF GOD IS STRONGER THAN MEN" (1 Corinthians 1:25).
Some people, including believers, do believe, since God has given them brain to think and analyse things, do they still need to ask God for directions on minutest or trifling things—things of small importance?
This act is not mainly about what you know or you do not know to do, It is about acknowledging God (Proverbs 3:5,6). You can go ahead and do whatever you wanted to do and get the result you desired; but when you would need Him, His directions, for things you cannot handle, He also might not be there for you (Proverbs 1:24-29; Zechariah 7:13).
Peace.
