Do you believe in all the traditions of your country? If yes, prove, No, share your thoughts with us.

Yes, I believe in the traditions of my country and the reason I believe in it is because Africa from the very beginning has a beautiful tradition which they celebrate and it was handed over to them by their forefathers.

Research has shown that before the coming of Christianity, we had the African traditional religious which has kept people on the know about the existence of God. So in this tradition some are fair and just whereas others are not.

So the coming of Christianity as part of the African tradition made us to understand our tradition in Africa even the more. Consulting our ancestors for solutions has always being the ways of our forefathers and that is what I believe about the African tradition.

Can you mention at most 3 Disgusting traditions of your country that you forbid and why?

There are some disgusting tradition in my country and one that I grew up to know is the Eating of human beings. There is a part of the country called UGEP which is termed United group of eating people. It is a local government in cross River State known for eating people.

This was a story because I haven't witness it. But from source they said it is part of their traditions. Another form of tradition that I felt it is disgusting is the burial of virgins alive when ever a sitting king dies and needs to be buried.

Lastly, the killing of twins is another scenario that I have noticed as part of the tradition that doesn't go well with me as a person. All of the above mentioned are done in some parts of the country.

Are traditions in your country still held in high esteem, or are they fading away?

They are gradually fading away with the coming of Christianity. Today we see abolishment of many of the tradition especially those we see as a fatish tradition. Killing of twins, buriel of virgins and even eating humans are major tradition that is gradually fading away.

Christianity has come to show us a better part to live which we have seen that are better than the previous. I'm delighted that I didn't come across some of these tradition as they are really very devilish.

Through in some places some of this traditions are still held in high self esteem but not openly practices as it was in the days of old.

What are those occasions that demand traditions to be performed before they become legal?

One of the occasion that demands tradition to be performed before they become official here in Nigeria is marriage. Despite everything the man does for the woman paying her dowry is an important aspect that must be done and it is always done in the traditional manner.

Another thing that requires tradition is the crowing if a new king. Everywhere, the king serve as a prime minister who communicates to the gods of the land and the only way to validate such position is when the person is choose by the god to lead. There are many more but these are few basic once.

Share your favorite country's tradition of all time.

My favourite country tradition is the celebration of masquerade. As you know in Igbo land there are many festive celebration and in each they always come out with masquerades.

I love seeing masquerade because they make me remember those days when I heard that they are spirits and that they are the intermediate between spirit and man. Always when I see them, they chase people around especially those that they said women can see them else they may not be able to conceive.

So all of these makes the entire tradition fun and that leads to the desire to dig more ahead to know and learn more things as well. So in my opinion that is the best tradition for me.

Finally, I wish to invite my friends @dove11, @solaymann, and @josepha to also join this contest today and share their own opinions about this wonderful topic.
