If you have joined Steem before March 2020, you need to revisit your recovery account, may possibly need to change it.

sapwood -

If you happen to be a steemian joined before March 2020, then you seriously need to check, who is your recovery account, you may possibly need to change your recovery account.

Is he(recovery account) active in Steem Blockchain?

Does he(recovery account) still offer this service?

Is the trusted entity(recovery account) hostile to Steem Blockchain, or he does not care whether you lost your account (or stolen or hacked)?

The first thing you should always remember that "Not your key, Not your asset" in cryptos.

If you have lost your Steem Account(or stolen) or someone hacked, then you can't recover your account by yourself. You first check who is the recovery account, and then reach out to that trusted entity(recovery account) to initiate the recovery process, then the recovery account will initiate the recovery for you at the Blockchain level, but for that, he will still need your Master Password/Owner Key to initiate the recovery and that has to be within 30 days of the hacking event.

Important Note-

1. A recovery account can not initiate the recovery without your help as he will still need the Master Key/Owner Key to initiate the recovery process.

2. If you happen to lose access to your Steem Account as a result of hacking, you can initiate the account recovery during the first 30 days of the hacking event and you should have the previous Master Passowrd/Owner Key to initiate the recovery process.

How do I check who is my Recovery Account?

If it is steem, justyy, steemchiller, steemhunt, or any other active witnesses who offer this service, then it's okay. But if it is Blocktrades(or any other entity who does not offer this service anymore), then you should immediately change the recovery account. You can change it to someone who is currently offering this service or someone who you can trust or who can initiate the recovery process for you (in case, hacked/stolen).
