A lot of people are faced with the challenges of procrastination which has limited their productivity and even affected their lives negatively. Someone once said that you rob time when you delay an action unnecessarily. Of course, when you leave what you should have done now till another time, you have lost time, and a time that is lost may never be found. This is why you need to fight against procrastination so that it will not stop your progress in life. Remember that neither life nor time will wait for you, so act fast. Here, we shall be considering some potential ways by which one can stop procrastination.

The first step towards putting up a fight to see procrastination end is to identify what normally predisposes you to procrastinating a lot. Just to let you know; people do not just do things, there is usually a root-cause that can be pointed to be the reason behind the actions of people. There may be reasons why you see yourself procrastinating, which you need to tell yourself the truth about. If you cannot honestly give yourself the reason why something happens, it may be repeated again. If a problem is not discovered, then solving it may become almost impossible. So the first step is to find out why you are procrastinating - is it because of fear of failure, or expectations of perfection, or lack of zeal and enthusiasm? When you have considered this, you will know how to fight it.

After you have been able to pinpoint the specific things that normally makes you to drag your feet from taking steps, then the next step is to break the task at hand into manageable and smaller pieces. I have come to realise that when a task looks too big in the eyes, it will become discouraging. But when you break the tasks little by little, it will provide the zeal and motivation to take on the task. I remember when I wanted to undertake a particular task some years back, but looking at it, the task was discouragingly big. In fact, anytime I remembered the task ahead, the thoughts of it sent cold chills of de-motivation down my spines. It happened for long and I saw myself stuck at it.

After a while of staring the task in the face without knowing what to do and how to start, I discussed my challenges with a friend of mine. He simply advised me to look for a way to break the task down into little bits and I will be surprised how it will become easier to undertake. I heeded to his advice and adorably, what I saw as a mountain was completed in record time. This was simply because I divided the task into manageable subsets and then taking it one by one. To prevent procrastination, do not set an obviously impossible or outrageously big dream. Try to observe your capacity and then let your dream fall into it.

In addition to breaking your tasks into manageable bits, you also need to have a time frame which you will have to complete the task. By setting a time frame, you will wad off delays and procrastination. But before you set time frame, endeavour to make your goals as clear as possible, and then make the timing logical too. This will help you to stay on the right course without having to lag behind in taking actions. I have understood that when you attach deadline or time frame to what you want to do, it will help to create a sense of urgency for the task which will put procrastination away. Of course, the more urgent what you want to do is, the more you are piqued to do it and complete it. So whenever you are creating a goal, do not leave it open-ended, try to put a deadline to it to make you motivated to get it done.

Another way to overcome procrastination is to create a good and conducive work environment. The more conducive your work environment is, the more eager you will be to work, and thereby overcoming procrastination. More so, having a good and conducive work environment will eliminate things that can easily distract you from work, and makes you more focused on the task at hand. Obviously, when you are more focused on the work at hand, you will increase your productivity and then make the most of what you are doing. Trust me, nothing is more discouraging than trying to work in a place where the environment is not conducive, because it can breed strain, stress and pressure. But when the environment is conducive, you will be eager to undertake your tasks effectively.
