What are "table manners"? Explain some examples. |
---|
Table manners can be defined as those etiquettes and rules who must adhere to while eating and drinking. These rules helps to make us have a good time at the dinning table.
Some of them includes.
Avoid talking when you have food in your mouth.
If you're at the dinning table with other people, wait for everybody to be served food before eating.
Ensure your mouth is closed properly before chewing food.
Ask for things to be passed to you, do not pass your hands over someone's food inorder to get something.
Hold your knife in your right hand, then use it to cut food and hold your fork in your left hand and use it to scoop the food into your mouth.
Always say thank you to your Host or server after eating a meal.
Always say please when asking for an item to be passed to you. Example, "give me the salt"
Always place the Napkin on your laps before eating. The Napkin helps to prevent your clothes from getting stained with the food.
Do you think children should be taught table manners or wait till they are grown before they can learn it? |
---|
Yes Children should be taught the basic table manners at a young age because when they're young they're in their formative stage and any wrong they do can be corrected but onces they grow older, it would be quite hard correcting them. An adage says that "you don't learn how to use the left hand at old age" and this simply means that it's difficult to learn something or a habit when we grow older.
Teaching children table manners at an early age will help them to learn and demonstrate appropriate table manners at the dinning table, it will also go a long way in teaching a child how to be disciplined at a table where they family members are absent.

The table manner that I find quite hard to maintain is "do not talk at the Table" As human beings, we usually have a lot to talk about and most times we talk involuntary.
Is it best to avoid a meal on the menu because you can't pronounce the name? Have you ever done it? |
---|
Even though I haven't found myself in such a situation. But if I found myself in one, I will politely call the attention of the server and point out the meal I want. I would go ahead to ask him/her to pronounce the name.
