History has shown that no one can ever suppress the voice of students. Student movements have always brought victory. On August 5th, Bangladeshi students created a new history. For the past decade, people have had numerous complaints against the government, especially for killing democracy.
Bangladesh's quota movement was known to the whole world. Throughout July, there was a wave of intense agitation for quota reform, which later turn into a movement to overthrow the dictatorship. The government tried various ways to suppress the students but at the end of the day the students won.
On August 4th at 1:30 PM, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned. She was doing a lot of infrastructure development but she was so desperate for power that she ordered her own country's Law enforcement forces to shoot her own countrymen. No matter how much a ruler improves the country, it is not more valuable than the peace and precious lives of common citizens.
Officially over 300 people died in this movement most of them are students, but unofficially the number is estimated to be over a thousand. More than 3000 students have been arrested. The people of our country started a mass movement against the former Prime Minister due to the arrest of innocent people, taking away the freedom of speech, violating the constitution, taking away the right of people to vote in the national elections and violating the democracy.
On Monday at 4 pm, the army chief addressed the people of the country in the national media and ordered the formation of an interim government in order to prevent any further casualties and loss of national resources. The army chief held a meeting with the anti-discrimination student community members who led this movement and other political parties of our country.
Today at 10 AM, the President of our country made a statement on the ongoing situation and ordered the immediate formation of an interim government and to lead it. Majority of the people and students requested the Nobel laureate world famous Dr. Muhammad Yunus to take over as the chief advisor of the interim government. Meanwhile, Dr. Yunus has given a positive opinion about becoming the chief advisor. Hopefully, the overall situation in the country will be brought under control soon with the formation of a new government.
Throughout the month of July, our country faced a very dire situation. Former ruling party has shut down the Internet at will, so that the country's anarchy and massacre do not spread to the outside world. But none of the government's attempts worked because people from all walks of life had only one demand and that was to bring back Democracy.
This generation is called Gen-Z because they are outspoken, courageous and fighting. This victory is considered by the present generation as the achievement of independence again and they have given the new name Bangladesh 2.0 . I hope that very soon we will see our country developing in a new way which will be completely democratic.
