[NEW PROJECT] The Illuminated Atlas of the Steem-Powered World

pennsif -

Today we are launching The Illuminated Atlas of the Steem-Powered World.

This is a new map based project from the @pennsif.witness team.

Steem has many thousands of great posts about many thousands of great places around the world.

The Steem-Atlas project provides an easy interface to explore those posts.

The Illuminated Atlas of the Steem-Powered World

The Illuminated Atlas of the Steem-Powered World takes its inspiration from the old Steemit Worldmap, originally by @martibis, that ran successfully on Steem for several years before the 'big split'.

The @pennsif.witness team (@pennsif, @rexthetech, @freelance.monkey) have built this Steem Atlas with new technology and a new mapping system.

Mobile Friendly

Particular effort has been made to ensure that Steem Atlas works as well on smart phones as it does on laptops and PCs.

Ready to try...

For the initial populating of the Steem Atlas we have pulled in over 44,000 posts that were geo-located through Steemit Worldmap.

Now we would like to see new posts being added.

The Steem Atlas project is live in open beta and ready for use...

If you are writing a post about a museum, a place of worship, a restaurant, a zoo, a shopping mall, a restaurant, a park, or any where you have visited - then why not try adding it to the Steem Atlas.

You can either add your post through the Steem Atlas using markdown, or you can create the post in your usual interface (such as steemit.com) and just grab the map code from Steem Atlas to include in your post.

For either, start by clicking on the Add Pin icon at the bottom of the map...

Then zoom into the map to find the exact location of the place you are posting about.

Click on that location and a Add a Post box will pop up.

You can make your post there in markdown, and drag and drop in your images.

Or you can scroll down to the bottom of that posting box to use the Copy Code button to grab the location code to copy & paste into your post made in another interface.

If you make a post for Steem Atlas include #steem-atlas as one of the first four tags so we can look out for your post. We will be voting on the best ones 😃

PLEASE NOTE : If you post through Steem Atlas your posting key is not retained or collected by our site in anyway. It remains purely client-side in your browser.

Previous Posts

You can also use this 'Copy Code' option to add a Steem Atlas location code to your older posts.

We will be happy to see people adding good quality, relevant posts that they have made in the past.

The Road Ahead

The site is still in its beta stage and there are bound to be some bugs and oddities that will surface as the site gets used.

Please comment below with any issues you have with the site. Or contact @pennsif on Discord.

After this initial beta stage we are planning a full launch of the site early in December.

Then we will be looking to promote the site far and wide beyond Steem.

We very much see the Steem Atlas as an outward looking project.

It has great potential to attract people to join Steem.

People cannot resist a zoomable map with pins - they will always zoom in to explore places they know 😀

A Pennsif.Witness Project

The Steem Atlas has been developed by the @pennsif.witness team of @pennsif, @rexthetech and @freelance.monkey.

The team has many plans to develop and expand the Steem Atlas.

Much will depend on the feedback from users, the amount of usage, and the resources we have available.

If you would like to support the project, please consider voting for @pennsif.witness.

We believe Steem Atlas has great potential to promote Steem to the wider world and attract new people to the platform.

Please help it live long and prosper...

Thank you.
