Among the tips to remember to maintain your car's engine and maintain its performance, you should regularly check the coolant level.

The role of coolant (also called antifreeze) is to regulate the engine temperature; prevent it from overheating in hot weather and freezing in cold weather.

The role of coolant is to circulate in the engine when it is hot, absorb this excess temperature by convection and cool by transmitting it to the outside through the radiator before returning to the engine.

If the coolant level is below the minimum threshold, the engine overheats, which leads to a series of serious problems and damages that can be extremely expensive to repair, such as:
  • Blown cylinder head gasket.

  • Deformation or cracking of cylinders and pistons.

  • Total engine failure.

To monitor the coolant level, simply look at the reservoir that contains it, which is usually a translucent plastic container located near the radiator.

For the coolant level to work properly, the coolant must be between the "min" and "max" markers on the reservoir.
As long as the coolant remains within this range, there is no risk of overheating the sensitive parts of the engine and it will be protected from heat damage.

Setting the coolant within this range improves engine performance, saves fuel and prevents wear on components such as the water pump and thermostat, whose operation (little/a lot) depends on the coolant flow.

In addition, check for any signs of contamination or discoloration of the coolant, as in this case it is necessary to drain the coolant as there is a potential problem with it.

By regularly monitoring the level and condition of the coolant, you perform preventive maintenance, prevent problems and breakdowns, extend the life and ensure the safety of your car.
