After the British left India in 1947, Pakistan and India were partitioned into two separate states. At that time, Pakistan meant the present Pakistan and Bangladesh together. Since the formation of the country, there has been a conflict between Pakistanis and Bengalis over the Rasht language. For 23 years there were many deadly conflicts between the two nations.

On the 25th night of 1971, the Pakistani army carried out a hellish massacre of innocent Bengalis to establish Urdu as the then official language of Pakistan.

They named the operation Operation Searchlight. Through this operation they killed numerous people indiscriminately across the country. That's why the night is mentioned as "Dark Night" in the history of Bengal.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of the Bengali nation called for independence in the early hours of March 26 after receiving news of massacres in the entire country overnight. He radioed everyone in the country to stand up against the Pakistanis and called for war. It was at his call that the Bengali nation jumped into the war and snatched the independence of Bengal through a long bloody war of 9 months.

Since independence, March 26 is being celebrated as Independence Day of Bengal. Although this day is a public holiday, the day is celebrated with great respect in all educational institutions and workplaces across the country. The day is started by firing 31 cannons every day in important government or military places. . After the gunfire, the President and the Prime Minister laid wreaths at the memorial. Various events and programs were held across the country on the occasion of the day.

March 26 reminds us Bengalis of the children of the world, who broke the chains of subjugation and brought us precious freedom in exchange for the fresh blood of their hearts.
