My weekend job - virtual farmer
6 comments
Hello one and all and welcome the "job" I've had for the last couple of weekends.
Since I can remember I always enjoyed playing a good simulator, be it driving, trucking, construction you name it. So when I found out that the people at GIANTS Software are developing a new iteration of Farming Simulator, I knew I had to get it.
The latest version of the game, Farming Simulator 25, came out almost 4 weeks ago and all I can say is that I've spent a lot more hours in it than I want to admit, let alone what I expected.
When you first start to play the game, you need to choose the map and the "difficulty" level, which are called presets. The are 3 maps to choose from, each inspired by a region: Riverbend Springs - North America, Hutan Pantai - East Asia, Zielonka - Central Europe. There are also 3 levels, presets, you can choose from: New farmer, Farm manager and Start from scratch.
There are also a lot of game settings you can change, which will make it easier of harder. You can choose if you want periodic plowing, if the fields need lime and so on.
I first started playing on Riverbend Springs but after 6-7 hours I realized I don't really enjoy the map and switched to Zielonka. After another 7-8 hours on my save, I decided to open a dedicated server with some friends so we can all enjoy the game and play together.

And that's when the grind started. I used to play for up to 10 hours per day just so we start to upgrade the equipment, extend the farm and even buy some livestock. However, we soon got bored of playing by the rules, especially to just plow-cultivate-seed-harvest-repeat, as the amount of money needed to buy fields and machinery is enormous. Yes, you can also rent them but where's the fun in that? So we decided to add a few zeros to the balance. Since then, the game became more enjoyable.

You have the possibility to either sell your harvested crops or store them in a silo and sell them at the best price. There is a menu that will show the best price and place to sell them. There are also some mods that improves this. For example, I harvested a field of corn and chose to store it in my silo as it's not the best price to sell.

But that's enough farming for the weekend. Let me know if you have similar "jobs".
