SLC S22W1 / Digital Cartography Basics

lovinah -

Greetings teachers and students!

Am thrilled to participate in this season 22 21 class with @soywilfredg
So here is my presentation for this week homework.

Make a freehand map of your country (It can be on paper, a computer or on your cell phone, the only condition is that it must not be traced. That is to say: The map does not have to be perfect )

This sketch i made is the map of Nigeria it has the east, north, south and the west the map of nigeria consist of 36 state and here i have included the space that indicate each state.

Within the freehand map that you made, locate where the capital of your country is and where the state/department/province where you live is.

federal capital

The capital territory of Nigeria is Abuja, this state is located at the heart of the country, it is a developed and beautiful state but not as big as other states and here we have our presidential residence Aso Rock So here in my map i used a red pen to indicate the capital state.

I used a black marker to circle cross river state as where am currently residing.
I was born and raised here in cross river although here is not my state of origin.

Locate within the map you made some states/departments/provinces that you know by heart (Only those that you know/remember at that moment, do not deceive yourself by cheating)

states i have visited

It wasn't hard to remember because i have visited just two state which is Akwaibom state and Abia state my parents both are from akwaibom state so most of my relatives are from akwaibom and they reside there as well and since it it also my state of origin i visit there often.

About abia state i have visited just once, abia state is a state where most of the residents are bussiness people who buys and sell goods in a very fair price, so the purpose of my visit was to buy all what i needed for my traditional wedding, here in my map i have used a blue pen to circle those two state i have visited.

Mention 3 places in your country that you still don't know and that you would love to visit and why.

With a pencil i have circled the three states i will love to visit my reason are;

Niger state this state is were famous zuma rock is located, since when i was in my pre school i have learned about the biggest rock in my country which is the zuma rock it would be nice to visit someday.

Lagos state am a lover of nature lagos state is know for their beautiful beaches i will love to visit one in the future.

Taraba state this state consist of beautiful landscape and high mountains i love to visit places with natural attractions center.

a) What is a map for you?

I see a map as a diagrammatic representation of a land or sea, it is drawn in a way that shows it physical features, cities and road which is always made according to scale, it can be of a country, a city or the whole world.

With map anyone will learn about the sizes and shape of any country the location and features and even distance between places.

b) In your opinion, what are the most important elements to understand a map and why?

the titleThe title indicates the theme of the map, explaining what is represented in the image that is in that particular map

the key this is very important in any map because this explains the colour signs and symbols used in the map.

• . Scale Maps are usually much smaller than the actual locations they show, so the distance on a map is also much smaller than the actual distance ...

c) In your opinion, is cartography important or not so important? Why?

In my own opinion i see cartography as a very crucial subject because it helps give a clear understanding of the worlds pattern, it helps to navigate physical space, with map someone can locate a place he or she has never been before.

a selfie of me with my drawing

Map can show exact locations of houses and street a city or neighborhood.

Am glad to participate in this week contest because in this week module i have learned the importance or cartography in our daily life.

And the main thing to know to be able to read and understand a map.

I will love to invite @blessedbee @bevicsam @alysaa to join this contest thank you.
