The winter huckleberry, botanical name vaccinium ovatum, is a small to medium-sized evergreen shrub native to the western Pacific coast of the United States and coastal British Columbia.

It is a species of flowering shrub also known as evergreen huckleberry and California huckleberry.

During the summer, the plant produces round black berries that are edible. And it can stay on the branch until midwinter.

It is a true huckleberry plant and grows well in the shade or in the sun.

It also doesn't need much sun, which is why it has a variety of forest homes. From old beach redwood stumps to thick thorn bushes of other forest growth.
