The African wood sorrel, whose botanical name is oxalis pes-caprae, is a type of three-leafed yellow flower found in the wood sorrel tree of the Oxalidaceae family.
It is also called Bermuda buttercup, Bermuda sorrel, buttercup oxalis, Cape sorrel, English weed, goat's-foot, sourgrass, soursob or soursop; Afrikaans: suring.
The leaves and roots are used as food in some parts of the world, although high levels of calcium oxalate may pose some risks.
The name of the genus oxalis refers to the oxalic acid it contains, and the species name pes-caprae means "goat's foot" probably because of the shape of the leaves.
The plant is often referred to as sourgrass or soursop because of its slightly sour taste.
