khursheedanwar -

Make and explain the process of the collars learned in this class.

Necklines are important when you have to make collar so first we will have a brief look at them and then we will move towards collar making process.

If we want to determine measurements of front and back necklines then there are following measurements you need to take for frontline of neck and back neckline.

Front Neckline Measurement

• You need to measure base of neck which is just above collarbone by using the of flexible measuring tape or piece of string around neck.
• You need to measure depth of neckline but depending on style of garment you are making it can very but standard depth of neckline for most of the costumes or garments is 2 to 3 inches below the base of neck.

Back Neckline Measurement

• Similarly you need to measure base of back neck which should be slightly smaller than front neckline measurement.
• Again you need to measure depth of back neckline and you can give it same measurement as you have measured from your front neckline depth.

After taking measurements from front neckline and back neckline you can draw them on your pattern pieces for creation of shape and depth of neckline that is suitable for your garment

Sports or casual collar;

For making sports or casual collar;

I made neck of garment I want to make and then I divide it by 2 so neck of government was of 12 inches and when I divided by 2 then it was 6 inches.

After that I fold paper in half and Mark 6 inches for allowing one inch seam allowance. After that I gave edges a slanted like shape.

After that I mark second piece of collar by adding 2 inch of seam allowance in it. After that I give the edges shape of a curve and now these are ready to cut into pieces of collar.

Mao collar;

For creation of Mao collar;

First of all I fold paper in half and eradicate two inches from both edges. I gave it a curve shape.

Then for second piece I mark to inches starting from middle towards edges and then I curves the edges for cutting piece of collar.

Really the most difficult thing in this process was to keep in mind the measurements and giving a curved shape in the finalization of pattern.

Shirt collar with stand;

For making shirt collar with stand;

I measure neck which was around 14 inches and then I divide it by to so after dividing the result was of 7 inches.

After that I mark and minus 2 inches from edges and I draw a curve and again mark 2 inches at top.

After that my collar was ready to cut out but it was able to use after sewing and turning it into the colour and cutting the interfaceing for giving it a neat finish.

Which neckline did you find most difficult to draw?"

Mao collar or neck line were most difficult for me to make because I tried second time to get a perfect curve shape of collar in it as well as it takes my 15 minute but other two I done in 7 to 8 minute each.

Which one are you going to use for the shirt?"

if I talk about my choice then I will go with shirt collar with stand for using for my shirt because this is most classical, timeless and easy to make design that suits at any shirt as well as if I will wear it or if anyone will wear then it will definite give an elegant and professional look to that person or to me.
