Time to Fly to Greece(... I Hope)

Hey Friends,

Well, the day is here. Tomorrow I set off again to travel the world. The plane tickets were booked to Athens, Greece, by way of JKF in NYC, then Madrid, Spain.

I have been looking forward to this day for a few weeks now, when I found out that my visa to Vietnam was not going to happen for a few more months.

I have had a lot of time to think about what I want to do with my life and the answer was always clear, I want to travel. See new places, meet new people, and learn about other cultures. That is what has always drawn me to traveling in the first place.

But I also want to have a job that I love and can be passionate about. A job where I can use my skills and help others. And then it hit me, what if I could do both? What if I could travel the world and help others at the same time? This is one reason I am thankful for my position with Dataloft managing the D.Buzz Project. @nathansenn is a wicked cool guy and working with him has inspired me greatly. He and the D.Buzz team I work with, fills me with passion for the work and to see freedom of speech grow.

Along with this, I use the workaway website to find opportunities around the world, to work with people that may need a hand. Such as in Greece, after I land, I will meet up with an NGO that is helping refugees. I will see if I can help them when I am in town.

With any trip, there are challenges as well. For me, right now there are 2 big ones. The first, is a 24-hour rapid covid test for clearance to fly, and the other is a winter story named "Bobby" that will be dumping 2" - 16" of snow on the North East tonight and tomorrow, making it hard for me to travel to JFK for the flight.

The Covid Test.

These things seem to be hard or expensive. I can do a free test at CVS (that I did yesterday), but they return the results in 2-5 days, I need the test in 72 hours before a flight... so, that won't do. I have an appointment today for a rapid test, results in 24 hours. However, that test costs $150.00 USD. DAMMM. These people are price gouging everyone. :/ Not too many other options but pony up.

Let's talk Winter storms.

"Bobby", as it was named, will start later today. My flight leaves at 7 pm tomorrow, so I have to get to JKF in NYC from the North West section of CT. This is normally a 2-hour drive. My little sister was going to drive me, but if there was a foot of snow on the ground, it would be much harder and I would miss the flight. :/

The Northeast is going to see anywhere from 2" - 16" of snow, which will make travel conditions difficult. I could take a bus to the airport, but there is no guarantee that the bus would make it through the snow. The other option is to take a taxi, but that could be expensive (* About $200) and I may not make it to the flight either.

So today I am going to gamble. I will go get the Covid test, pay the $150, then see what tomorrow will bring.

I am so excited to see what the next few months have in store for me. I will be updating my blog and social media as often as possible, so make sure to follow me there.

Stay tuned for updates.

Cheers!
