Genesis 50:22-26
This is the last passage we will read from Genesis. If you are still with me, congratulations for reading the entire book of Genesis with me in Hebrew. Next week, we will be going into the book of Exodus where we will see what happened to the descendants of Joseph and all his brothers who were living there.
Today, we are seeing Joseph's life coming to an end along with the close of the book of Genesis. This is the book that saw The Creation, Noah, and the patriarchs that led to where we are today.
It turns out that Joseph had made it to 110 years old before he died. He was able to see his children's children to the third generation. He repeated the same move that Jacob did, meaning that he counted two of his grandchildren as his own before he died.
He then told his brothers that that God would surely visit them and that he would take them out of the land of Mitsraim (Egypt) and into the promised land that he had vowed to give to the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He also made sure they knew he wanted his bones taken with when they leave Egypt.
Next week we will see what happened to the brothers twelve and their children as we make a jump forward in time and continue reading about life in Egypt. Get ready to read the Exodus story.
So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father's house. Joseph lived for 110 years. And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were counted as Joseph's own. And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” So Joseph died, being 110 years old. They embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
The story continues next week for Esodus ...
