On this almost Christmas 🎄 Nineties Friday I’m picking pop punk Christmas tunes from the nineties! Plus a Nineties classic Chanukah tune!

Some of these songs were literally limited to fan club members only like the two from MxPx. Over a decade later they would be released on a Christmas album in 2009 but originally were mailed to fan club members in 1998 & 1999 a week before Christmas 🎄. The Blink 182 song was released in 1998 and appeared as a single. Same with No Doubts 1997 single Oi to the World! which was actually a cover song of the punk band The Vandals song from a year prior. Also we got one Chanukah tune! Obviously from the great Adam Sandler! I ended up finding a Weezer Christmas song after I recorded so we have our standard Five Tune Friday now! Plus a bonus pick from one of our main five picks! Let’s Go!

🎄 Pop Punk Christmas Vlog 🎙️

Just a random vlog from the road! The Adam Sandler Chanukah song came on the nineties station so I hit record asap. Mostly picked pop punk late nineties original holiday tunes on this #NinetiesFriday Enjoy!

Alright let’s check out the tunes!

Artist - MxPx
Song - Christmas Day
Released - released to fan club members as a special fan club release in 1998. I remember getting my one track cd in the mail a couple days before Christmas. Rereleased in 2009 on the album Punk Rock Christmas.

Artist - Blink 182
Song - I Won’t Be Home For Christmas
Released - originally released in 1998 as a special single. Has since been on multiple soundtracks and other releases.

(You know it was recorded pre summer 1998 because it was pre Travis Barker joining on drums and has the old drummer Scott)

IMG_1671.jpeg

Artist - Adam Sandler
Song - The Chanukah Song
Released - 1996 on the album What the Hell Happened to Me? And was originally performed a couple years prior on Saturday Night Live.

Artist - Weezer
Song - The Christmas Song
Released - Originallyreleased in 1996 …I think based on a the recording. But honestly I’m having trouble finding original date. It’s on a bunch of holiday comps featuring nineties bands but it looks like original release was some out of print thing I can’t find. But it sounds to me like it was recorded with the 1996 second album seasons based on sound and production.

Ok ok well we all know my rule! The year 2000 is still the nineties. So we are good!

And for bonus pick let’s go back to our second pick above the band MxPx and the 1999 follow up for the fan club members!

Artist - MxPx
Song - Christmas Only Comes Once A Year
Released - was originally released as a fan club exclusive special cd in 1999 as there second Christmas fan club release. It appeared years later on the Christmas album Punk Rock Christmas (2009)

Thanks for tuning in on this special Christmas theme Nineties Friday & Five Tune Friday! Most these songs are lesser known and limited releases so in the nineties it was not easy finding them. Obviously now we have YouTube but in 1999 I remember having to be in a fan club to get some of these or watching MTV to hear one on Christmas because you couldn’t buy it. Happy holidays & Merry Christmas 🎄

It’s #NinetiesFriday and I’m hoping this builds into something similar to ThreeTuneTuesday where we have many people involved!

Some ideas are music, movies, television, sports, or really anything Nineties related. I assume movie or tv or music topic reviews or talk will be most common, but you could also talk a sports memory or something else. Think the Pop Culture of the times, but it would be great to hear about little known and interesting bands or entertainment items. Don’t forget to use tag #NinetiesFriday
