The US vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, hindering international efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

This action, despite the urgent need for a halt to the conflict that has killed nearly 44,000 and displaced nearly all of Gaza's population, leaves millions facing imminent famine.

The US cited the lack of explicit hostage release demands as the reason for the veto, despite widespread criticism that this prioritizes political considerations over the urgent humanitarian needs of the Gazan people.
