U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to announce sanctions against Israel's "Netzah Yehuda" battalion for human rights violations in the West Bank, marking the first time the U.S. has sanctioned an Israeli military unit.

These sanctions will prohibit the battalion and its members from receiving U.S. military assistance or training under a 1997 law aimed at units accused of human rights abuses.

The decision follows investigations into incidents involving the battalion, including the death of Palestinian American Omar Assad in 2022.
