What are some challenges for togetherness in today’s world?
The following represents the various hurdles that has made the concept of togetherness a hard thing to achieve in today’s world.
Social Media: Social networking is a tool that gives users an opportunity to communicate with people of different countries but at the same time, it undermines opportunities to experience direct live communication.
Political Division: Partisan animosity and identity politics are on the rise, thus diminishing opportunities for civil society to understand and, therefore, bridge, the division between parties.
Economic Inequality: The problem of social inequality in terms of assets and opportunities leads to strengthening social segmentation and dissociation between societies.
Cultural Differences: People come in different cultures globally, which is something lovely about life, but it can be a tough nut to crack; people of different cultures need understanding and respect to avoid differences turning into issues such as stereotyping and conflicting.
Technology: For as much as technology has brought about convenient ways of interacting and communicating, then it has brought about awkward ways of interacting and communication and generally a lot of feeling of disconnectedness of people from their counterparts.
How can we support each other during tough times?
Perhaps the most important thing at certain moments is to know that you are not alone. Hear them well and with understanding, help them practically, and comfort them spiritually. Just call each other, text or make video calls. Be polite while accepting people and avoiding judgment. Promote good hygiene, sleep, and diet, exercise or other health-related activities.
Post items that might be useful to others, ideas, recommended links, documents, photos, etc. In times of anger be the one to voice soothing words and be there to support. Pop in from time to time and remember that it can take time for people to recover from anxiety and stress. Just remember that even if you can’t do much, just being there and telling them you are aware of their situation will often help. The four of us can go through the difficulties to come with the toughness, care and cooperation.
