We cannot doubt that there are certain situations we go through in life that afflict us or depress our soul. Sadness is an emotional state that, due to its forcefulness in those situations, can lead us to depression and a strong discouragement. When you lose the meaning of life and you feel like in the confinement of an abyss, the look is clouded and the heart remains wounded. You see everything as opaque and it seems that no brightness of light reaches the doors of your eyes. The psalmist David, in various situations of anguish in his life, knew how to say: Why art thou cast down, O my soul, and why art thou troubled within me, hope in God, for I shall yet praise him?

The men of God also experienced desolate and devastating situations, which generated a very high level of anguish. The key to overcome this negative emotional state is, as David said: "wait on God, for I shall yet praise him".
Definitely, God is our refuge in the day of distress. This is a great truth that encourages our soul whether in the day of conflict or in the greatest moment of affliction.

When we lose a loved one, as in the case of a mother, I can assure you that it is something very painful and depressing, you lose all kinds of strength and courage. You feel like in the hole of a desert and in the abyss of loneliness. The gigantic emptiness fills your heart and the look of sadness and the afflicted spirit does not cease to bring back memories of pain. In the days when my mother died, everything seemed of eternal loneliness, the mind was completely clouded and I could not accept that reality. She was the most beloved being after God. My soul lost its breath, its strength, its motivation and I felt drowned in the river of grief. As the hours passed and the moment of burial approached, I felt that the Holy Spirit opened the fountains of my memory and brought me words of consolation, indicating to me that my mother was sleeping to be awakened to a better life and that she was now resting in a wonderful place called paradise. My soul entered a new state of comfort and my spirit sighed the truths that the Holy Spirit brought to my heart.

When God is in the matter, the dreary atmosphere of life fades away and a time of God-driven glory begins over your life, so that the soul regains the breath necessary to move forward and continue to hope in God, for from Him flows life and happiness.

I recovered much courage, because the truths of God are a source of life, hope and love.

Only God can give us encouragement in times of crisis and affliction. David said: "Thy rod and thy stillness shall comfort me". Certainly, God is the only one who can give us encouragement in those depressing moments of hard loneliness. God increases our strength and courage to get up and continue in the race of life. The psalmist said: "You will increase my strength like that of a buffalo". That is what we need to get out of a strong emotional state that has robbed you of joy. We need those mighty buffalo-like forces to rise up and run freely across a savannah or a jungle with gigantic glorious forces that come from God. The word of God represents that truth that encourages us at all times. We need that daily refreshment to comfort our soul and continue to hope in our God.
