SLC S21 Week 3 - Herbal Medicine in the Kitchen

Welcome to another class of herbal medicine, we learn every week.
This week was a great one and after identifying those herbs, I proceeded to make my homework task. The task wasn't that easy but since it is a challenge I challenge myself to do it.
Recipe Creation: Create a meal or recipe using at least 3 herbs which are commonly found in your area and explain the health benefits of each herb in the recipe.
To do this contest, I cooked rice with tumeric, ginger and garlic. This are the most herbs ingredients that will always be available in my kitchen, the flavour and the colour the gave to food will always encourage one to eat without even looking at the health benefits but then it has a lot of health values.
I peeled and wash the garlic, ginger and tumeric and blended it then add it to my rice. Although I used other herb spices in preparing it such as the onion, pepper, thyme, rosemary etc. There is no way I prepare meals without having this herbs available to add to my meals.
They can also be used as seasoning to season my protein such as chicken fish and any other protein or any other food that I want to seasoned.
I finished cooking and the delicious rice was ready to be consumed.

In the food it will help to control any abdominal obstruction that may lead to nausea and vomiting. It also help to regulate the blood flow in the body thus managing blood pressure. |
Research Seasoning Health Benefits: Pick any two seasonings and research their health benefits. Write a short paragraph on each, covering how they can benefit your health when included in meals.
There is this two seasonings that is always available in my kitchen because I like their flavours I like adding it to my proteins most especially when I am cooking industrial meal. This seasoning adds flavour, colour and it makes my food to taste good. They are uyayak, black pepper, tumeric, ginger, garlic, chilli pepper, cinnamon, cloves, atah, iru, calabash nutmeg, nutmeg, etc
Personally, I'm not a fans of already made mixed spice I prepared my own seasoning with different herbs and stuff it in my kitchen which I use in cooking.
For the sake of this contest that we are only asked to talk about two of the seasoning, I want to talk about turmeric and black pepper which is the king of spice.
Tumeric; this herbs helps in digestion, it adds flavour and colour to food. It is an anti oxidant, antiinflammatory agent which helps to relief pains in the body. It fight different disease in both inside the body and outside (skin). When applied to any cream or soap, it moisturize the skin keeping it free from some skin disease. Helps in controlling weight and some disease of the reproductive organs such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Black pepper; is the king of all spice. It is very rich in antioxidants, it improves brain health. It has anti-inflammatory properties. It has that pepperish sensation and flavour that smells so nice especially on dishes. If you add it to your barbeque preparation it enhances the taste. Black pepper has antibacterial effect which helps it to fight some bacterial disease in the body.
Effective in relieving mental related issues such as depression.
Herb Identification Challenge: Identify five herbs at a local grocery store or farmer's market, taking photos and writing down their uses, along with how they could be incorporated into cooking.
I can identify cinnamon, lemon, garlic, clove, onions from the market and
Cinnamon; this is a bark of plant it has a lot of health benefits that is good for one to be taking. It reduces blood sugar level, high blood pressure and very effective in weight loss control. It has antivirus, antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antioxidants effects this it helps in controlling or fighting disease relating to this area. Helps in digestion as well.
In food, it give a unique flavour to that food, it can be used in steaming, baking, drinks, boiling and cooking.
Lemon; is one of those powerful fruits that is used in cooking. You may wonder how it is being used. Very effective in washing of your meat and fresh fish, it helps to put off that foul smell from your meat mostly, chicken and pork then all fresh fish.
It helps to give this that sweet smell and flavour to meat.
Garlic; is a very good herbs that has a lot of benefits in it. It is antioxidants, antibacterial etc. Which helps in fighting disease. Garlic is very good in reducing high blood pressure,
When added to food, it helps in boasting appetite, it also aids in digestion. It adds flavour and aromatic taste to food. It is mostly used in steaming, frying and in most instances added to juice to enhance the taste.
Cloves; it has antivirus, antibacterial, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effect which fight infections of
any kind. It improves hormonal imbalance this helps to stimulate hormones in the body and that is the reason it is very effective in restoring and refreshing the body.
In food, it gives that flavour while steaming your meat, controling the calories in your diet, and enhances the taste.
Onions; is one of those powerful herbs that has a strong flavour and plays important part in the food. It reduces the risk of cancer and it helps I'm lowering high blood pressure. It has that natural sweet taste and irritating to the eyes but very good for the eyes as well.
Onion is either fried to activate the aroma in food or boil. It can be added with cloves or other herbs and boil then drink as tea for cold and cough.
Detox Medicine:
Prepare a herbal detox medicine and tell step by step process and how it helps to detoxify the body?
My herbs is ready for preparation
I added the volume of water required in the cup and add black pepper to it.
I added cloves to it and keep it aside for 24 hours then boil it with the water.
When cool, I added my lemon by squeezing the juice to the water.
I strain the herbs extract out using a sieve

How it detoxify the body
Detox drinks helps to detoxify the body, they are prepared with some natural herbs which helps in washing out some toxins in the body and it is always advisable to take it once in a while to detoxify our body.
There are different herbs air spices that is used for this depending on what you want, what is available to you and what your body needs.
I choose cloves and black pepper detox drink as it helps in weight lose because they have weight loss effect.
Cloves and black pepper controls cholesterol level, lemon too reduces weight.
Black pepper; the presence of piperine in black pepper fastened the metabolic rate in the body which causes effective weight loss. Therefore a better metabolism rate results in a better weight loss effect.
Cloves; is good for digestion and once metabolism in the body is effective, weight loss is achieved.
Therefore, drinking this detox atleast for 7 days will achieve a good weight reduction.
