Steemit Learning Challenge-S22W1: Physical Therapy Intervention: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

drhira -

Hello friends I hope you are great I am happy to participate in another challenge that is very informative for me.

The word syndrome is Greek word which means running together. It's set of medical symptoms that are interrelated with one another.

Now what is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)? This is commonly situation which mostly affects the hands and wrist areas. The median nerve that is running in the forearms and moved into hands, now the narrowing area in the wrist that is Carpal tunnel it has compression and pinched.

What are causes?

If we are working continuously in repetitive orders such as on mouse, computer screen or the work which continues with hand the condition is called repetitive motion.

What conditions may appear through repetitive motion of hands?

What are symptoms?

How to diagnosis?

The doctor can assess the wrist, hand and fingers to check the reflex, sensation and holding capacity.

In order to check the nerve compression or injury Electromyography (EMG) can be done.

For checking speed and power of signal in median nerve Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) is performed.

Few tests are as follows which are used by physiotherapists.

Tinel's Sign: the doctor tapped the median nerve along with wrist if there is numbness situation in the fingers its indicates the carpel syndrome.

Phalen's Test: the doctor applied a mild pressure on the median nerves if the patient flexes their wrist, a numbness situation exist within the 30- 60 second is indication of carpal syndrome.

Flick's Test: if the doctor assess any pain sign on rapid flexes and extension of wrist.

Median Nerve Compression Test:the doctor check it by applying pressure on the medial nerve at the rest area and if the patient reports any sensation of pain or numbness in the fingers its indication of carpal syndrome.

Range of Motion Testing: the doctor assess the motion of wrist such as extension, flexion and adduction etc.

Wrist Extension Test: if the doctor ask the patient to extend their wrist and observe any symptoms of pain its clear indication of carpal syndrome.

Sensory Testing: this test is used to check sensation of fingers with the help of pinprick and touch vibration.

Muscle Strength Testing: the test is used to check the muscles strength in thumb muscles.

This exercise is performed by the stretch in which arm and wrist are kept in tension and pain is reduced if it exists.

Median nerve glide

It's done by keeping hand straight and hand immobilize and neck is rotated in both directions.

Thank you dear friend for giving us chance to study about the Carpal tunnel syndrome and also to diagnosis it well. @ashkhan I found it very effective.

I would like to invite my friends @m-fdo, @jannat12 and @mdkamran99 to take part in the challenge.
