I hope everyone is good its honor for me to take part in the SLC S21 Week 1 - A Comprehensive guide to Herbal Medicines its very good to understand about the herbal medicine, I would try to explore it up to my best knowledge.

Research Assignment: Research and write a history of herbal medicine in your culture or region.

Pakistan has wide historical background of thousand years ago while using the herbal medicine. If we taken into considering Pakistan cultural values are rich in using herbal medicine.

Around 39800 medicinal doctors are work8ng on herbs, about 130000 homeopathic clinics are registered working on herbal remedies for treatments and people rely in it due to its effectiveness.

A great portion of World and developing Nation are still depending on herbal medicine for treatments. Its most effective ways of treatments of different diseases.

Pakistan around more than 10% of herbal plants are being utilized widely for treatment purpose. Most of these herbal plants are present in northern areas of the Pakistan, about 150 herbal plants are present in Margalla Hills only it has great importance in history.

Most diverse region

Pakistan has certain areas which are enrich in medicinal plants, such as a forest called Hazar Nao located in Malakand KPK it has almost 50 species of herbal plants used for treatments of different diseases.

Moreover Chitral is also diversely contains different herbal species and used locally for treatments of diseases.

Comparison Task: Create a table comparing the benefits and side effects of modern medicines vs. herbal medicines for common ailments (e.g., cold, headache).

Herb Identification: Choose 3 herbs from your kitchen like mint, ginger, or turmeric and list their health benefits. Mention the recipes where you have used these herbs.

Mint its called Mentha sp.

What are health benefits:

Most Commonly used for stomach issues and boost the process of digestion.

  • It reduced the complain of headache and nausea feeling.

  • It had wide range spectrums for anti inflammation and also works as antioxidant.

  • Its widely used for oral health and refresh the breathing.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

The wide range health benefits are as follow.

*It help to reduce inflammation means having anti-inflammatory property.

  • Help in digestive problems and can improve nausea.

  • It support immune system

  • Decrease pain and swelling

  • Ginger have anti- oxidant properties.

  • It may help to decrease blood pressure.

  • It can relieve constipation

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

The health advantages are as follow.

  • It has Improving Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties

  • Help in joint health reduce pain and inflammation

  • Its helpful in cognitive function also lessen the risk of Cancer.

I have mostly used in in Qehwa called ginger tea.

I used 1/2tsp turmeric
1/2 inch ginger
Few m8ng leaves

Moreover the ginger and turmeric is part of every cooking, the mint is used in salad and also in raita too.

Forms of Herbs: Write about the different forms of the herbs.

I will describe about the different forms of herbs few are as follow.

The fresh herb

As the name shows these are used in raw form either fresh flowers, leaves or stem part. It can be used in tea or infusion or salad as raw form for treatments of different sickness.

Dry herb

These are dry out either floral parts leaf or stem, hence it can be stored for longer time periods. It can be used in form of different spice, teas etc.

Powder herb

These made by grinding easy to used and mixed 8n diff 8infusion tea or drink effective for different health disorders.

Infusion
These are used either in hot tea or iced effective for different health issues widely utilized especially in winter.

Tincture

Its highly concentrate form of herb further may be mixed with solvent for example ethanol.

oil

Few herbs are extracted and ouo are used for skincare and different remedies in combination.

Balm

Few oils are combines with wax to form balm which are highly effective for pain relieving.

I am going to discuss about the turmeric and its side effects on health.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

*In certain cases the skin allergically response are observed by the use of turmeric.

  • Its safe but more often it may caused the sign of vomit, nausea like condition.

  • Its useful for blood thinners, but sometimes may become responsible for bleeding especially during operation.

  • Kidney are sensitive to higher dose of the turmeric and caused Stone in it.

  • It may induced the symptoms of lower the glucose level and also disturb the medicine of diabetes.

How to avoid

  • Dosage: use 1-2 tsp of turmeric daily

  • Start with minimum amount, reduce gastric issue start with small amount then gradually increase.

  • It should combine with Black Pepper, when we use it in combination it can reduce the side effect.

  • We Should monitor blood sugar level and blood pressure: when you use turmeric then daily check your BP and sugar level.
