In Hollywood's grand pursuit of glory,
Two films of old, with tales of story,
Competed in 2004 and '56,
Troy and Alexander, epic scenes to see.
In 1956, a film of royal might,
Alexander the Great, a life so bright,
Born in 356 BC, a destiny to claim,
A legacy of conquests, his name in fame.
The film portrays a life of strife and strife,
A father's love, a mother's life,
Court intrigues, a scholar's wise decree,
A life of power, a life of destiny.
The story tells of conquests grand and bold,
A plan to unite the Greeks, to make them whole,
A journey to the east, to India's shore,
A life of victory, a life of lore.
But alas, the film, with all its pomp and show,
Could not rescue itself from a script that's slow,
A tale of power, with none to share,
A story that lacks the depth, the passion, the care.
The lavish production, the locations grand,
The extras, the horses, the sets in demand,
All for naught, as the film falls short of the mark,
A disappointment, a tale that's left in the dark.
A life of Alexander, so full of might,
Reduced to a story, with no real fight,
A film that's lost in time, with no one to blame,
A tale of power, with no one to claim.
Yet still, the legend lives, in all its might,
A story of conquests, of a life so bright,
A life of Alexander, the Great and bold,
A tale that's told, and forever to be told.
